Sales Associate (Model) Interview

Sales Associate (Model)
San Antonio, TX (US)

I applied online and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch.

Interview Details I called the store and I asked if they were hiring- they said that they did interviews every Tuesday and Thursday at 4. The manager told me to come into the store on Tuesday at 3 so I could fill out an application in the store. I showed up to the store on Tuesday at 2:55 and went to the desk and asked where i could apply. A sales associate led me to the computer where i filed out my application. Several times while i was filling it out, managers came up to me and introduced themselves. I finished with the application around 3:40 and then i had to wit for the interview.
Waiting for the interview was awkward because i basically had to just walk around the store and pretend like i was looking at clothes until i saw everyone go outside for the interview, it was super uncomfortable( because it was for like 30 minutes). Then I just decided to wait outside. I just so happened to look over my shoulder and saw that there were people gathered for the interview- they already started. Thankfully, they had only just introduced themselves.
There were 5 people in the interview and she asked the typical abercrombie questions; it took about a total of 20 minutes. She said thanks and she'd call within a week if we got hired.
I waited for a week and got no call, so I called them. they told me that I had been hired and to come in for an orientation that sunday.
I came in for my orientation, and my manager asked me to work the same day.

Interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch

Interview Details Very basic interview. It was my first job so I was actually incredibly nervous. Main manager interviewed me in a group, one other person. She mostly asked questions about your personality and hobbies, but the most important question is "what is diversity to you".
Easy interview, terrible process though. Nearly took a month, my employ card never worked correctly, and pictures for being apart of the team were never taken. Overall, a very easy job and interview process.

Interview Question – No difficult questions, but it is always a good idea to do your research about the company and especially the idea of diversity, in which they ask in the interview, and throughout your stay at the job   Answer Question

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch.

Interview Details The hiring manager asks questions about the store's history, and why is teamwork and diversity important. Usually a group interview, very informal. They like you to be wearing their latest clothes and look as close to their "look policy" as possible. If they like you, the interview/ hiring process goes very quickly. They are constantly looking for new people and love "fresh faces."

Difficult Interview

Model/Sales Associate Interview

Model/Sales Associate
Jacksonville, FL (US)

I applied online and the process took 3 days - interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch in July 2014.

Interview Details I applied to the store located at the St. Johns Center in Jacksonville, FL in hope to secure a summer job. I was not impressed by the professionalism of the store managers, nor the general managers, in conducting the interview. They do not engage in any way with their prospective hires. The interview process is a group interview and it is by default as one applies for Impact or Model positions.

The dialogue largely from the managers is scripted and, at times, very duplicitous as body language is concerned, or the overall atmosphere, for non-White prospective hires. They do not hire based off skill which is the very nature of being a "Model," or sales associate, which is about salesmanship. Sure, in retail, appearance does matter compared to other industries but this store puts an irrational emphasis on appearance. You cannot dress professionally and expect to land this job. You cannot dress in Abercrombie and expect to land this job, if your look is not what is marketed in their store.

In other words, if you are non-White with physical features that show that then the odds are not in your favor. Harsh reality. They say they are looking for outgoing individuals, but in reality as I observed they hire obnoxious individuals who look similar to their marketing materials. If you value genuine diversity and merit regardless of your ethnic group then I recommend not applying to this location, or the this company at all. They also have a nasty habit of hiring random referrals and giving those referrals priority in hiring instead of someone who genuinely wants to work there by applying intentionally.

I applied in-person and interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch.

Interview Details Apply on the computer and show up day you choose. They ask you how your friends describe you and what diversity means to you. They usually ask you to say there saying hey whats going on? To see how you sound. Almost everyone gets the job. You should get a call sometime between 3 days to 2 weeks depending on who did the interview.

I applied through a recruiter - interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch in May 2011.

Interview Details I got asked to work at Abercrombie by my university, but decided to interview to be a seasonal employee back home. I applied online and interviewed at a coffee shop in the mall with several others. I got called back a week later saying that I received the job. They were very laid back.

Interview Question – Nothing difficult or unexpected. They pretty much asked about diversity and its importance and asked us to practice saying the store's tagline "Hey, how's it going?" Definitely be as peppy and cheerful as possible because that is an important trait of everyone who works in their stores.   Answer Question

I applied in-person and the process took a day - interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch in November 2011.

Interview Details Be likeable, not too bubbly and overdone, but cool and confident. Come in with minimal make up or hair product if you're a girl. Fix your hair neat if you're a boy. Dress preppy and fresh. They are not interested in individuality. Say you fold laundry at home or are OCD about things being neat and in place.

Interview Question – What would you do if you saw that someone was stealing something from the store? (They teach you how to deal with this sort of ordeal, which happens all day, everyday)   View Answer

Negotiation Details – There is no negotiation for sales associates.

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch.

Interview Details Just a really easy, relaxed group interview with the assistant manager. There were only 4 questions and they were really simple. They just had us each answer the question in a row, meaning that the last person had an advantage since they got to listen to everyone's answers.
