    Pros

Entrepreneurial business model allows me to serve my client's best interests and grow my practice. AXA provides a platform for advisors to give feedback to senior management. The company also invests heavily to make us leaders in a digital environment.

    Cons

Like any entrepreneurial business, the career requires a lot of hard work and can frustrate those who are not willing to commit the effort needed to create a successful practice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue investing in digital and technology so we can remain leaders.

    Pros

Karr Barth is one of the top AXA offices in the country for good reason. The training is second to none; coming from another broker/dealer and new to the business, the training I received and continue to receive at Karr Barth is amazing. Management does an extremely good job assisting new advisors in launching their business.

    Cons

Being an advisor is extremely difficult--no one at Karr Barth will try and hide that from you. It is difficult for good reason, however. Other reviews cite having to pay for licensing or tapping your "natural market" as negatives. Launching a business that holds a tangible value has a cost up front. However, having ownership over your own business allows you the freedom to be as successful or unsuccessful as you want to be--there is no ceiling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.

    Pros

I assist the Marketing and Recruiting Director in all aspects of the job. She is an extremely creative and talented social media guru. She has been very trusting in assigning me with important, time-sensitive projects and has taught me valuable skills in all aspects of the job. Schedules are very flexible. State-of-the-art training program prepares new employees to be extremely successful. The branch provides this training for free and hosts weekly training seminars on how to utilize social media to spread brand awareness.

    Cons

You definitely have to work hard to be successful, but they provide the stepping stones one would need to prosper here. The hard work literally pays off, you just have to be willing to put the effort in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It may be beneficial to create a position solely for a Recruiting Director. It's extremely time consuming and difficult to manage all aspects of marketing and recruiting for the entire branch and its detached offices.

    Cons

As with any career that offers unlimited income potential and freedom to your own hours it up to you to make good decisions. It can be hard to stay disciplined.

    Pros

Very flexible hours. Kind and great working environment with opportunity to succeed. Friendly bosses who want to see you succeed. Knowledge service staff to answer any question that may arise.

    Cons

Lower starting salary for advisors. Unpaid internship originally. Training could use some work and the balance between work and home life is hard.

    Pros

The more you work, the more potential there is to grow and get compensated. Great flexibility and pay structure. Good training program for new employees (thanks to experienced management team).

    Cons

No major complaints. Just be prepared to work A LOT - but at least it pays off unlike with other jobs where you may work a lot and not see the results.

Current Employee - Financial Advisor in Buffalo, NY (US)

    Pros

Great team atmosphere with co-workers who become friends. Ability to make great money, challenging and engaging career. It gets easier and easier over time as you build up your clients. Great training too.

    Cons

You must be self motivated, you will be guided and helped with what to do but you need to go out and do it yourself. Getting started can take a lot of time and effort to build up your business but once you do it will be rewarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the training schedule, set up more times for senior advisors to talk to new ones and give them advice from when they were new.

Current Employee - Financial Consultant  in  Buffalo, NY (US)
Current Employee - Financial Consultant in Buffalo, NY (US)

    Pros

Advisors and staff in our Buffalo office are extremely helpful and supportive. The managers are more mentors and coaches, rather than bosses. The Buffalo office has the highest per capita income within the company, with most advisors making well over $100,000. Many making $250,000+. It is a tremendous opportunity to help clients achieve their financial goals, while having the freedom to run your own financial planning practice. The benefits are second to none in the industry. A lot of short term and long term incentive programs on top of highest immediate compensation in the financial planning industry. Support to obtain your CFP designation and other higher education programs.

    Cons

In the first few years there is a lot of hard work and time that needs to be put in. However over time, the work gets easier through working with clients and receiving referrals. And the flexibility over running your own calendar helps maintain a work-life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue supporting the financial advisors as you currently do with programs such as the training through Harvard and the Wharton School of Business at University of Penn.
