One of the worst companies I worked for

    Pros

The work is high-tech and fascinating. Some great colleagues too. Fascinating locations worldwide.

    Cons

I found the management arrogant and aloof. This resulted in a poor relationship with the customer as well as with suppliers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in managers who show respect to people.

    Pros

The only thing going for this place is the salary. They pay high salary for the area, which traps you if you live accordingly.

    Cons

Office politics run rampant, even to the detriment of the product they put out. Programming is shoddy, with clients having to be repaid thousands and thousands of dollars due to poor implementation, and then patches are applied that end up breaking other things. More work is piled on, and they do not hire appropriately. They have cycles where they have to let people go, and artificially select candidates to place at the bottom of the bell curve to get rid of, then five months later realize they need to replenish because they THINK they have a new client coming on. BEWARE - they will hire you then the contract will fall through because the account execs are IDIOTS - and they will just tell you to leave with no feelings. Corporate used to send out employee satisfaction surveys, and they were so bad that have meetings were started on how to approve morale, then they decided it was just easier to get rid of the people who complained the loudest. Upper management is incompetent, and tries to micro-manage because they think the problem is the people, when in fact the process structure in Champaign stinks. People are given work with little preparation, and as for training - you better be prepared to learn it yourself somehow, because there is none. I blame corporate centers in Israel and St. Louis for looking with a blind eye toward a group of overall miserable people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop letting people from India take all the leadership positions. They have no idea how to relate to White Americans, and have no management nor people skills. As to the senior management team, they all need to be replaced. Most rose to the level of their incompetence, as the old adage goes.

    Pros

If you're an American, you're good for maybe 3 months, then they move your job to India or Israel. This company got the IT contract of my past employer a couple of years ago and promised job safety. Instead, I got stuck training someone in Pumba, India in middle of the night for 6 weeks (didn't speak English). This company is a typical example of how our country is going downhill bigtime. I had a safe job with a telecommunications co. for years only to lose it to overseas. Unreal....

    Cons

see above if you are even worried about where this country is going

    Pros

    Cons

Heavy politics. If you dont have a project you are gone.No bench to accommodate resources till a new project comes. No process in anything be it technical or managerial processes.Manager's ratings are final,no facility to raise your concerns against ratings.A totally hypocrite company wherein they will do 1000 rounds of skip leveels,1-o-1 blabla but would never act on the concerns made.

    Pros

Still some of the most talented people I've ever worked with.

    Cons

I have been able to overcome the years of brainwashing. The worst part involved the infamous lack of work/life balance. Many reviews revolved around the horrendous career paths, but when just about everyone is working 80 hour weeks, it's difficult to differentiate yourself unless you have an Israeli last name, which still does not guarantee a promotion. Also mentioned is the stagnant technology, which will hinder your chances of finding a position outside of the telco space.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management would not deem this site worthy to even acknowledge. To my former coworkers, I urge you to get out and really look for a company you won't be a slave to. To those considering accepting job offers, think twice unless you're desperate.

    Pros

    They hire highly qualified candidates.

    Cons

They do not reward based on merit. Those of us whose spouses work for Amdocs are known as "Amdocs Widows" for a reason. There is absolutely no concern for work/family balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you hire an employee, you are also involving the family. Stop hoarding the employees' time and energy and causing their families to deteriorate as a result.

    Pros

    1) Recognition and financial rewards in projects are exciting (if you manage to get them in a large team).

I am not able to see much Pros after experiencing work at other companies.

    Cons

Overall very less respect for developers.

    1) Very less industry standard technical exposure.
    2) 0% respect for work life balance. If you don't work for stretched hours then you might get poor rating in evaluation.
    3) Very less flexibility in switching technologies. All depends on luck when you were first allocated the project.
    4) Continuity of job is very uncertain. I have seen many intelligent people were given poor rating and were asked to leave (victims of office politics). Now they are in superb companies like Amazon, Walmart, Redbus, etc
     5) Onsite opportunity is history now. There are sites but travel department is not friendly. People deny going abroad these days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read the cons and try to improve it (although i have very less faith :) )
