I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Easy to get into so an easy resume builder. Good training opportunities - if you take the time to pursue them. Depending on your manager, lots of opportunities to learn and try new things. 35 hour work week.

    Cons

Sketchy management overall. Most managers will will say one thing but do another which results in low morale and trust. But leadership team has recently changed again, so perhaps this will slowly change too as it was a "trickle-down" effect from one new bad seed in upper management who has since been replaced. Q4 usually sees layoffs (last 5-6 years) so employees continually are waiting to see if this year is their turn. Management will often make up "issues" out of the blue to try to get people to resign - particularly with long term employees that have earned higher severance. Old school culture - like your Grandfather or Dad's "good old boys" company culture. Female advancement to upper management low, and layoffs for older females high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It was smart to replace newer, toxic president with someone that has worked his way up in the company. The new president should replace all the bad eggs hired under that old president to restore the company culture to what it was 10 years ago under Salerno. High shareholder earnings are great, but it doesn't have to be at the expense of a healthy culture.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group

    Pros

Commision can be great. Plenty of unpaid time off furing slow season. Hourly plus commision. Cant beat that

    Cons

Communication is horrible. Learn to help employees better. Lack of knowledge. You need to be a favorite in order to have management listen to you and do something to rectify the problem. Some people (definitely not all) are a pain to work with. They feel entitled to everything and make hige ordeals out everything just because they have been there for 10+ years and yet they are horrible at their job and expect to have everything handed to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employees and inform them of any changes in policies.

I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun people to work with and for
    Flexible scheduling
    Continuous on the job training
They definitely strive to see you succeed

    Cons

The job consists of convincing (read: tricking) people into paying more for their rental than they intended to. Your job is to explain to them why the vehicle they chose isn't good enough to do what they wanted. Reserved a mid size? You need a full size! Reserved an SUV? You need a 12 passenger van! Even if you reserved a Camero convertible, you will need to convince them that they should upgrade to the challenger or any other car.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I'm sure the upsell pressure comes from the top down, so management does its best when it strives to ensure the strategies are shared, revised and compared often.
