    Barclays definitely hire a 'type' for the branches- bubbly, friendly etc so you always find someone you can get along with

    Cons

    The self service machines have made a cashier's life hell. One till for ALL business customers and transactions over 750.00 is a joke. I worked in a self service bench for 5 days before handing in my notice. Customers (rightly) hate the new style and therefore set about making a cashiers life hell because they're miserable.
    Also- giving cashiers a 4% max pay rise for this is laughable. I'm going to a job which will increase my salary by 20%, better hours and paid overtime.
    Overtime-a paid working day in Barclays is 9-5 with 1 hour lunch.Fine on paper but you are required to be at branch by 8.30am latest and are never paid overtime despite rarely leaving before 5.30PM.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay your cashiers a living wage and don't patronise them by using a fancy job title. Try spending a 9 hour day on a till in a self service branch and smiling at closing time. Please reconsider the 1 till per branch rule, it is beyond realistic!

    Pros

    Compensation is ok and some of the senior management are extremely good.

    Cons

    What senior executives want to achieve and change, is halted by a bureaucratic layer of institutional lethargy and denial. The junior Director level is overpopulated with individuals who are simply hanging on for a pension. The Bank is constantly trying to change and evolve, but is continually dragged back by dinosaurs who don't like to be held to account - the culture remains: 'bowler hats and typewriters'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Clear out the middle (B7) level and nurture talent. Create an environment where ideas and initiative are embraced rather than actively suppressed. Regional capability needs to be brought into the centre with more collaboration - its no wonder certain BUs are so militant and separatist! I had the opportunity to progress in the bank but left as my spirit was being crushed. The RBB cluster's reputation for churn is well known, and people who have conformed in that environment struggle when they leave..

    Great work life balance and easy environment.

    Cons

    Unintelligent people, many without university degrees. No interest in financial markets, no ambition to grow. Lots of politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work on talent retention, upskill graduates instead of rusting them and their careers. Get rid of 10-3pm, lazy, unintelligent, unamibitious, unenthusiastic oldies....please.....they are probably the biggest drag on your equity. take employee opinion seriously!

    Pros

    Only reason I chose to work for with them was as it was easy to get job with them and the transport commuting is easy as it is near a station and bus. Also parkiing permit given.

    Cons

    Managements spying on staff to the extent that they will come into the TOILET to tell you to hurry up as the customer queue is getting big!!! Even when ones just gone in, is this not bullying in the work place?. Management has a habit of picking on selected certain staff also. When it comes to emergency childcare management tells staff "get your finances in order so that you can afford a proper child career or get a bigger mortgage from Barclays to help you. Others get away with more than simple wrong doings and attitudes. When a complaint is made about this the management hide their favourites by making statements similar to "each person is dealt with on individual circumstances", "confidentiality" or "they will be spoken to". They still continue to do the wrongs. Management get transfers as "They find it too busy a branch from my old one....I can't take this." Other staff can't get transfers as "there's too much going on" as being the answer. Well if they find things "too much going on" then they are not worthy of being managers. Managers stick up for each other even when they are wrong. When challenged to many things the reply is "It's down to managers discretion", this even applies to getting time off for child sickness and doctors appointments etc.. Even cash differance are taken likely when made by certain staff and management come down hard on others who don't even make often or great value errors- favouritism. This is then paraded between themselves as an example setter...just to get marks and say "I have done my jobs" but they have done more wrong by NOT doing their job where it counts, both to company and colleagues. Customers are persuaded to take insurance and package account even when it is obviously not suitable for them. Management encourage this for the income for the branch.
    No work life understanding by management, they just want to look at company. There attitude an behaviour is having a negative effect on staff and moral and also work productivity.

    Pros

    In Barclays New York, there are great networking events with WiN and WiT. Salaries are quite generous compared to competitors.

    Cons

    Very weak management. Technology sector is collapsing. Projects constantly put on hold an moved to the UK. Benefits are lacking for such a big bank. Health insurance is Blue Cross Blue Shield which is not the best and not accepted everywhere. Business and Technology are laying off and displacing employees constantly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire some experienced people who know how to do their job and can drive the company to success. If you want good US presence the make New York Barclays more robust or else close shop in the US. Barclays is ruining many careers.

    Used to be a very good bank. Good history, had good ethics, had good people, used to be safe and strong

    Cons

    UK took their hands off the UAE operation, No organisation, disharmony between sections and departments, no communication between staff, legal department in chaos and makes lots of errors, compliance department dont do their work properly and when things go wrong they blame their clients. Legal department incompetent and irresponsible. Bank trying to cover up their shortcoming by blaming clients. Ruined businesses in dubai.

    Clean-up your operation. Look closely into your legal department and question their incompetence. Stope ruining your clients and their livelihood
