    Pros

    Private healthcare, bonus, plenty of career opportunities if you seek them.

    Cons

    Poor communication, some employees seem to work very long hours, lots of services have been outsourced, IT isn't the best, poor management, office culture, annual leave allowance isn't amazing, the lifts get ridiculously busy at peak times!

    Pros

    Pay and Bens competitive when compared to other Retail Banks. Good restaurant facilities. Flexible working and good lifestyle balance.

    Cons

    Poor senior HR management, more focussed on their own careers and bonuses than changing HR in a positive way. HR changes that are implemented are badly conceived, reactionary and rarely effective.

    Pros

    Work/Life balance achieved through telecommuting, 4 weeks of vacation, holidays, package of benefits. 401(k) matching up to 6% of salary

    Cons

    There is no proper human resource direction in technology area, jumping in various directions with the "workforce location strategy". Development process is hindered by multiple "red tapes", requirements for tons of unnecessary documents, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    No bank today can survive without proper technology - get some focus there, define practical goals, and follow on implementation. Finally, establish a proper "technical career pass" to preserve your investment in technical talents.

    Pros

    - Great office location near the Burj Khalifa and Dubai mall
    - Good work life balance. Most people are out of the office by 5:30pm
    - Great brand name to have on the CV
    - Access to global teams and networks from international offices

    Cons

    - Awful local management. Unprofessional conduct and petty disputes are common in which more junior staff are dragged in and projects are impacted
    - Non diverse teams with staff selection based on nationality / personal preference rather than best candidate for the job
    - Very low budgets for expansion available

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Look at restructuring the top level management. Stop hiring locally for management positions and instead hire staff from Barclays in other regions to ensure corporate culture is maintained.

    Pros

    Training is freely available to anyone that wants it
    There was a focus for a while on upskilling the staff
    Working from home in some positions
    Some benefits

    Cons

    Obsession with sales over customer services
    Bonus is terrible - always full of promises but it's rarely worth having.
    Management is incompetent in most offices. There doesn't seems to be any need for management skill before you're promoted.
    Office politics is rife. Prepare for back stabbing and constant complaining
    Internal promotion process is overly complicated

    Ditch unreasonable sales targets
    Focus on customer service
    Ensure that managers are actually capable before promoting them
    Try to make internal recruitment appealing

    Pros

    The health insurance plans, benefits, and 401k are the best aspects of working for this this company. There is also the benefit of working around some very intelligent individuals.

    Cons

    applicable to operations teams at the company:

    Poor pay
    High stress
    Low employee morale
    Culture is very poor
    Lack of gratitude from management
    No positive reinforcement
    Only acknowledgement when there are problems
    High level of scrutiny
    Promotion process and salary increase is poor …ex: very possible that you will make less than the team you manage bc you lose overtime and the adjustment for that loss is terrible
    Inconsistent and unfair tuition reimbursement policy (discriminatory)
    No company holiday parties
    No group holiday parties
    Poor management at most levels* (there are a handful of good managers who want you to succeed, and who are willing to take time and offer advice, however, these are the minority and you must generally seek them out)
    Not somewhere to have a long career

    Pros

    Compensation was competitive. The people who came from NYC to train us in Houston were great.

    Cons

    Poor work life balance. Manager had an NYC state of mind so she was not concerned with working timely and efficiently. Managers tend to micro manage and there is no consistency across teams. The benefits were just ok as far as prescription coverage I felt I paid more with Barclays. The company is behind tech wise and they are just now going through changes other banks went through years ago. They are having another relocation strategy after less than a year in Houston.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop making decisions so hastily. Value people more and don't be such a stickler for days off after working people for more than 12 hours a day.
