I have been working at Barclays full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Starting salaries and package tends to be good.
    Lots of internal opportunities.
    Good work-life balance.

    Cons

    Very political culture.
Masses of bureaucracy make it very difficult to get things done.
Very poorly defined processes make the organisation very inefficient.
While starting salaries tend to be good, increases over time are poor.
Job satisfaction is low, as is morale.
    Communication is very poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Sort out the operating model.
    Improve access to information.
    Empower the workforce.
    Change the political culture.
    Communicate more effectively.

It's British & headquarters in London, which has advantages if you are based in London.
    Can be interesting

    Cons

Most difficult place to get anything done of any place I've worked - big or small. Big negative outlooks from individuals.
    Poor HR
    Pay has got weaker comparatively

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a strategy and stick to it.
When doing redundancies, don't just get rid of anyone who questions or thinks. You are turning into a 'Yes-man' shop.

    Pros

Pay and Bens competitive when compared to other Retail Banks. Good restaurant facilities. Flexible working and good lifestyle balance.
