Learned a lot while selling my soul

Producer (Former Employee)
Richmond, VA (US)

I worked at Clear Channel part-time for more than a year

ProsAs a producer for 3 local news-talk programs for WRVA, I learned my way around a board, how to edit and finalize audio in less than 15 seconds, and I developed an on-air personality through my interactions with the hosts. That helped me to land a gig DJing for the local indie radio station, WRIR which I love.

ConsClear Channel is an utterly evil corporation owned by the Romney family with it's tendrils sucking the life out of low-paid college students across the country. I slaved away with no hope of a raise, worked insane hours, and had to put up with affronting and insulting political opinions that often targeted me. It was not a happy place for me.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a way to offer raises to those who deserve it, stand up for your employees.

Good internship experience

Promotion Team - Intern (Former Employee)
Minneapolis, MN (US)

I worked at Clear Channel as an intern for less than a year

ProsI spent a summer as an intern for a local radio station and it was an amazing experience. Office environment felt professional, but relaxed.

ConsWhile I enjoyed my internship, I don't think it added any real value to my resume when looking for full-time job post graduation.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider compensating promotional interns and giving them more responsibilities to apply to the real world.

Great environment but too much corporate control.

Accounting Administrative Assistant (Former Employee)

I worked at Clear Channel full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat co-workers. Relaxed workplace with lots of opportunity to learn and friendly management.

ConsCompensation is many times non-negotiable and low. Little room for official advancement. Company is quick to lay off positions and delegate their workload to others without the raise in pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more opportunities for advancement and reward for hard work and accomplishments.

Clear Channel Pros & Cons

Promotions Manager (Current Employee)
Newark, NJ (US)

I have been working at Clear Channel full-time for more than 5 years

ProsLove working in the entertainment field.

ConsThe health plan is getting worse year by year. Used to offer United Health Care, then created their own "Clear Channel Health Care" with an EPO and an HSA. They now have eliminated the EPO plan and only offer an HSA. Workers outside of sales and programming are drastically underpaid.

Company is ruining radio

Producer (Former Employee)
Davenport, IA (US)

I worked at Clear Channel full-time for more than a year

ProsThey have a great reach and good brand recognition. If you like radio, this is your opportunity to work in radio.

ConsYou will eventually get laid off. It doesn't matter how many cuts you make it through… eventually they will get to you… and you will be gone. The company is completely ruining radio and running it into the ground. Also the pay is terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop ruining radio and getting rid of great talent for no reason.

Great people to work. Fun culture. Pay and Benefits are disappointing.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Clear Channel full-time

ProsClear Channel has a great group of people. You definitely make close friends on the job and the job culture can be fun and flexible at times. There's a few perks, like meeting big music artists, a chance at winning a free trip to the annual iHeart Radio concert in Vegas and the occasional work parties in appreciation of our hard work. Overall, the work culture is satisfying.

ConsOutside of upper management and AM personalities, the pay is very disappointing. Company wide bonuses do not happen on a yearly basis. Upper management just grows and grows - VP's, VP II's, VP III's, Directors, Sr Directors, and more - the top get paid. It's also hard to grow within the company. There are no mentor or training programs outside of upper management.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut more focus on your employees outside of upper management.
