    Center Manager

    Prosgood corporate environment, room for growth and development. I was promoted from a part time customer service rep to store manager in a matter of two years

    ConsI was there during the transition from Kinko's to Fedex Office. There were lots of negative changes. The company went from being a smallish company to a huge machine.

    Advice to Senior ManagementBring back the small company culture, where store managers are free to run the store based on their customer's needs,

    ConsMost of the company contains people of the spouse and kids lifestyle. Pay is at or below average but work is not too demanding.

    ProsMedical benefits, good leader ship, management has an open door policy to solve any problems. After being unemployed for a long time, FedEx hired and trained me to do my job well.

    ConsHard work in carrying heavy packages. In all my time working with FedEx I have only experience one supervisor who was a poor manager who had a eye for the female workers. And he didn't last long.

    Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work, but do some improvements in clearing up the place.

    ConsIt is always busy. There are always balls to keep in the air. The money is better than most places but still so so for the amount of work that you do. Benefits are good through.

    Fantastic company with strong benefits

    ProsFedEx has a People Service and Profit culture where all three are important but you lead your focus on the people. The company and many strong benefits like 401k, dependent care and health savings accounts, vacation, sick time, floating holidays, discounts on shipping and cell services. The health care is better than most though not stellar. The company sets clear expectations and gives you the tools you need to achieve results.

    ConsHealth Care coverage could be better and some less frequent shifting of strategic focus. Often times the team is unable to master something because the focus keeps changing.

    Great place to cultivate professional skills.

    ProsCultivating great professional skills such as time management, multi-tasking, leadership, computer skills (some Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and InDesign), customer service, professionalism.

    ConsWork / Life balance is tricky at times when you work at a busy center. I worked at about 5 stores over a combined total of 8 years and I noticed at the busier centers they were always needing help and asking people to work overtime. On the other hand if you work at a slower center you still cultivate great skills get paid the same and have a less hectic workday. Make sure to visit the center you are thinking of working at before you decide to work there.

    Advice to Senior ManagementI would recommend trying to find a way to allow those with skills to use them! And I'm not talking just about Graphic Design abilities (FedEx Office outsources all of it's design work), I mean that I felt that the large majority of employees had talents, skills and abilities far greater than they were even allowed to use! This really doesn't make sense when you look at an average day in the life of a FedEx Office employee and see how busy and demanding it can be! So there is a huge demand on one hand and a huge untapped potential in the other hand -- obviously there is a disconnect there! I feel that management is trying to make everything too "easy" and by trying to create systems and rules for everything they don't allow people to express their own creativity. When people are not allowed the chance to express their own creativity they become disengaged and go through the motions.

    Do I still believe this is a great company to work for? Yes, I do. I feel that I gained priceless skills and experience while there and would definitely recommend FedEx Office to a friend (and have!).

    I think this company will continue to grow and evolve and I would recommend any job seekers to try this business out if they feel like it suits them, just don't plan on making it your career.

    Its the best of times and the worst of times.

    ProsIt all boils down to management, if you get a good manger, who supports and cares about what you do , this is an amazing place to work, but if you get a bad one, its high stress, and your completely unsupported, they do help pay for school even if its only a bit, and the training programs if you take advantage of them are really good.

    ConsThey dont pay there employees nearly enough for how much work you have to do, making copies is not rocket science its true, but also we use a ton of vendors and programs in order to meet all our customers needs, the amount of retained knowledge you need to have an educated conversation, with a bigger client is extraordinary and there is more and more pressure to learn each new thing has fedex rolls out it new print products.

    Advice to Senior ManagementI think you should consider looking at investing your team members more into the sales of the company, well its nice and good to teach them the focus of printing this, or shipping that, because its more profitable for the company, to not reward them more then the couple bucks they get for the program, is not really investing them in the outcome past that month or months of the program, every other position in the company besides the base CC and LC gets quarterly bonuses based on there performance, even the closed production facility's, why should the grunt team members pulling alot of the work be any different?

    FXO is a great company to work for. They appreciate their employees more than most corporations and offer growth within.

    ProsBest reason to work for FedEx Office would be some of the perks we are offered, even though there are limitations. We are offered many discounts not only within the company, but also outside with other vendors. There is also a lot of room for growth with the company and they encourage employees to learn and grow. Competitive pay, great training, and great benefits, including a 401K.

    ConsBiggest con is the fact that we are simply FedEx Office. It is like the red-headed step child of the FedEx Corporation, and it is treated that way. The position also includes a lot of selling, which is a con for me personally. There is also the shadow of Kinko's. Kinko's did do more for the employee than FedEx Office does.

    Advice to Senior ManagementFedEx Office is actually pretty great at compensation and time-off policies. However, this could just be a district/center thing. I have a great Center Manager and am very happy with her performance.
