    I worked at Google

    Pros

Google has a very open culture with fun people. Managers are understanding and supportive. The work is interesting.

    Cons

No real cons that I can point out. Large projects mean you can feel like an insignificant cog in the machine.

I worked at Google as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

As an intern I had plenty of time to do whatever I wanted to. Also, since the project was pretty open ended, I didn't have specific deadlines to meet, except for having something to deliver at the end of the internship. My host and I were pretty much the only people who had any idea what was going on there. Other employees, however, seemed pretty tense about meeting expectations. Compensation was very good.

    Cons

Office culture was annoying. A number of people hoping they would be the next Steve Jobs would deliver motivational speeches while wearing a turtleneck.

Training was what I could expect it to be. There's a lot of material that had been developed over time, in form of online tutorials, which are pretty useful at any stage. Generally, the place seemed way too large, and spreading over way too many areas for people to get an idea of what the general direction was. Also, it was hard to get attached to a particular project, particularly given that a good number of these end up in the dumpster, so it's hard to see your own contribution growing into something nice.

I wouldn't recommend to younger people to work in Mountain View. That place is boring, and unless you are willing to drive every day to San Francisco and back, there's nothing interesting going around there. Employees are pretty boring, most of them are overqualified people who ended up coding trivial stuff. Because of this, you always notice how people are trying to engage in some sort of weird competition involving things like solving mathematical puzzles and making a point about how they are the smartest employees any company could ever have.

I worked at Google as an intern

    Pros

The environment and culture are wonderful. There's free food and events. The company does interesting work. You fee like your work is relevant when you work here because of the nature of the company's work. The people are nice, smart, and down to earth.

    Cons

People are assigned a lot of work so you must be sure to do a good job balancing your workload. It's hard to get work done when you have so many awesome distractions like neat events to attend.

Former Employee - Software Engineering Intern in Taipei (Taiwan)

I worked at Google as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The opportunity to work at Google would make people envy of you. And you get a lot of benefits there: free snacks, great view of Taipei city, flexible work hours. The tools and documents are well-established and you can get to real work smoothly. The pay is also pretty high. The people there are nice and very skillful, and most importantly, they enjoy their work.

    Cons

Because there are relatively few interns, and each of them is assigned to a different team, it's harder to know others. This could reduce your sense of security. No special activities for interns. And as they expect you to be a very good developer, the guidance they give you was relatively few.

I have been working at Google as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    1. There are rich resources for internal training.
    2. Flexible time and nice work/life balance.
    3. Generous payment and relocation stipend.
    4. Gorgeous people to work and interact at work.
    5. Google holds internal weekly meetings to share the most recent progress in various teams.

    Cons

As the company is too big, it takes more time to learn about the different opportunities on a higher level. Typical projects have narrow focuses and it is hard to learn what everybody else is doing in the team.

I have been working at Google as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Great benefits, incredible culture, hard-working peers, and great opportunities to grow professionally. The environment promotes teamwork and support rather than competition and sabotage which is great.

    Cons

Google is not immune to office politics. Many people are invested in their own responsibilities and projects that it becomes difficult to ensure that you are receiving the necessary and training for your own job. Also, mobility is more common horizontally rather than vertically.
