    Pros

Flexible time. Plenty of new software opportunities, rather than updating or maintaining old code.

    Cons

It was primarily a hardware and instrument company and the company is transitioning to a software company. It is learning how to develop, so mostly the challenges around mistake and mismanagement around that...

The company doesn't really grow in value other than through acquisitions.

    Pros

People were very talented and willing to coach and train others
    Very flexible on work hours
Vision for the company was reasonable, but was taking longer than desired.

    Cons

    Intense focus on quarterly results.
It felt as if there were many teams, not necessarily one company or one business unit.
They depended on too few critical people to make things happen

    Advice to Management

Growth areas need sustained investment or they can't take hold.
Too many execs hired from the outside....need to cultivate more from within.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

The team was small and agile with very competent people. Received good feedback from manager and always knew how to adjust to better meet goals, flexible work environment, a lot of freedom.

    Cons

Felt there was lack of training at the start. Communication between marketing versus engineering often conflicted in terms of my targets.

    Advice to Management

More involvement with co-ops, allow students to network with each other and larger team.

    Pros

Innovative environment, nice people and very good work culture. Work place is nice in singapore.

    Cons

I found that Salary growth rate is on lower side. Also some strategies for future are not very clear.

    Pros

leading company with leading portfolio of solutions that cover all markets, strong management and teams very skilled and professional.

    Cons

As a global company they used to globally set up same organization, this is hardly working with little offices and massive business centralization causes weakness in local organizations.

    Advice to Management

Strategies requires plan and time to execute, too often management change too quickly, no time to build.

    Pros

Great technology and products. Competitive compensation.

    Cons

Always felt threatened by layoffs if the company financial performance was not pleasing Wall Street. And it did not matter how good a job you did since it does not effect the stock price in the short term.

    Advice to Management

Don't just talk that the employees are valuable but demonstrate that you are committed to them through thick and thin. JDSU's culture of shedding employees to please Wall Street means that employees have no real loyalty to JDSU and will jump ship if they have the opportunity.

    Pros

Good pay, great benefits and lots of friends. There are training opportunities but you've got to ask for it.
My position involves lots of traveling for business so I have the opportunity to travel round the country.

    Cons

JDSU is involved in a lots of outsourcing, acquisition and mergers resulting in department and employee lay offs. Also not enough raises.

  10. Helpful (1)

Company grew through acquisitions, so really depends on which site/group you are a part of.

    Pros

Current CEO has done a good job over the past 5 years integrating all of the different sites to be more unified - one culture, improved communication, common goals.
Pretty reasonable/flexible work schedule - heavy when critical deadlines, more relaxed when things are slower, not constant sweatshop.
Diverse in terms of products/technology and sites/locations - opportunity to move around if you want to try something new by moving internally.

    Cons

HR is unimpressive - no real concept of employee development/career paths, managers a lot of times on their own to handle their reports, have seen improvements over past couple of years though.
Saw a lot of hiring from outside at higher management levels, rather than promoting/growing leaders from within.

  11. Lots of people who care and want to do well for themselves and the business unit.
