    Innovative, smart people, good compensation

    Human Resources (Current Employee)

ProsLincoln has a lot of really smart people. The environment is pretty collaborative and the product/distribution partnership is strong. Work/life balance is decent. Politics vary depending on which area you work, but overall, compared to peer companies, it's OK. Financially has performed very well, even during some very turbulent times. Consistently scores higher than peer companies on employee engagement.

ConsA lot is going on, so hard to manage the pace if you've got a lot of personal demands, but again, most managers are supportive of work/life balance, flexible schedules, telecommuting. A little behind the times from a technology standpoint.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep listening to employees through engagement surveys, town hall meetings, but more important small group interactions. Don't overlook the stuff that's tough to hear.

    Overall, good company.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Omaha, NE (US)

ProsGood benefits, competitive salary, generous time off, and flexible work schedule for salaried employees. Leadership is accessible and will listen to your concerns. Hard working employees, most have a very good work ethic. Very friendly people!

ConsLimited flexibility for hourly employees. Need to update systems, rather antiquated. Need a more holistic on boarding program. Need to add more people in HR, the generalists are swamped.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive hourly employees more flexibility. Update old systems.

    Awesome benefits

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat benefits! Good culture for the most part... Encourages local involvement in charity work.

ConsToo top heavy... too many in upper management

Advice to Senior ManagementMske sure you look at realistic numbers before making decisions... lots of data is just smoke and mirrors -- and decisions are not logical

I enjoyed working for Lincoln Financial Group. The people in Hartford are awesome!

    Senior Actuarial Analyst (Former Employee)
    Hartford, CT (US)

ProsThe company provides great support for actuarial students to progress through the rigorous exam process. The actuarial program is very structured and provides appropriate incentives.

ConsThere seem to still be some struggles with integration from the merger with Jefferson Pilot. There is culture clash and miscommunication between campuses.

Advice to Senior ManagementLincoln Financial Group is a great company and a great employer. I would still be there if human resources hadn't botched my relocation!

Good benefits, flexible with family/work balance

    Compliance Specialist (Current Employee)
    Omaha, NE (US)

ProsA lot of departments offer some type of flexibile schedule. The company offers good benefits including medical, vision, dental, 401K, life insurance, LTD, STD, accident and critical illness.

ConsIt is hard to move in to a new position - it takes a while. Medical is switching next year to a HSA type plan and there will be no PPO option plan available, so this becomes more expensive for deductibles. Parking is difficult and often full even if you are assigned a garage or surface lot (no assigned spot, just by area).

    Nice place to work

ProsThe people are by far the best!

ConsLeadership communication at times can be lacking. Lots of current growing pains but nothing serious.

Very typical company that is a large corporation.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat 401k plan and benefits. Has on site cafeteria and Starbucks. Lots of opportunity for advancement. Most of management has an "open door" policy.

ConsContact Center is more focused on stats as opposed to the customer experience. They say they are focused on the customer experience but they equate that only to hold times.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to all of your employees. They are the ones that speak to the customers. If their morale is down because of what management has put in place, change. Taking paid holidays away from employees really hurts morale (granted, when you are being paid 2 1/2 times your pay on a holiday, it helps). But when people make plans for a holiday and then 3 weeks before the holiday, they are told that they will be working, it really hurts morale.

    Sales Comp Analyst at Lincoln

    Sales Compensation Analyst (Current Employee)
    Radnor, PA (US)

ProsExcellent independence and work environment. Great hands off managers. High level of talent within the workplace. Very quick to adapt to market changes. Good support of independent thinking and promotes continuous improvement in any means you would like to execute.

ConsLimited training opportunities and most of it is voluntary. I personally think training should be mandatory so everyone is on the same page.
Frequent organizational changes that are some times unecessary.
Heavy reliance on external consulting when the answer and solutions are already known by the operations/front line employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou hire some of the best people in the industry, but that doesn't mean they can rest on their laurels. Ramp up your training program for both sales and operations, especially internals.
