A great opportunity to become familiar with the daily writing process.

Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsI was an intern with one of MTV's websites. They produce daily content which is really important experience for a communications student. Very demanding -- almost considered a staffer.

ConsTypical office drama...a lot of gossip. I wasn't really used to that, but I guess it comes with the territory. Sometimes staffers had to scramble to find things for interns to do.

    Great place to start off

Intern (Former Employee) Santa Monica, CA (US)

ProsThe Santa Monica office was a laid back atmosphere. Dress code is casual and every person I worked with and met were nice and helpful. If I didn't have a career change decision, I would have wanted to spend my entire career at MTV Networks.

ConsDon't have any complaints except living in the valley the commute was rather far to Santa Monica every day.

    Great Resume builder

Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsExposure to all the different deparments. Educational internship and a great thing to have on your resume. Friendly, casual environment

ConsEveryone is so young it looks like there is no long term employees. For production mainly use outside vendors. Wasn;'t able to stay in contact with supervisors.

This place is a giant intern mill

Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

Pros- Looks great on a resume
    - Get to work for well known networks
    - People are friendly for the most part

ConsMTV takes advantage of all the free labor they can get. It is super easy to get an intern position at MTVN, but once you graduate, forget about getting hired there. The useless "internship seminars" are just in place to make it seem like they are interested in watching you grow into a prospective MTV employee. It's all phony. Don't waste your time. Seek a better internship elsewhere where you actually have a chance of getting hired after graduation. I honestly think they post fake positions on the career site just to keep the HR recruiters busy. Ridiculous.

Great reference but projects were uninspiring

Intern (Former Employee) San Francisco, CA (US)

ProsExcellent reference and great networking opportunities. Great exposure to industry trends, technologies and products. Fun and laid back work environment.

ConsProjects and tasks were very low responsibility compared to other internships I have completed. They do not compensate for travel, which made interning difficult.

    Great place to work

Intern (Former Employee) New York, NY (US)

ProsPeople are really nice and they respect each other
    Young crowd
    Good name
    Good location (times square)
    You learn a lot
    Flexible work hours

ConsNo compensation for interns. They should at least give free breakfast or lunch or travel compensation to their interns

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
