    Pros

Nice work-life balance, great people, great pay, fantastic intern program.

    Cons

Aspirations seemed to stagnate and employee motivations for products tended to wane.

    Pros

Great team with a really understanding manager
A lot of autonomy along constant constructive feedback
    Food was pretty good
    Friendly culture
Coworkers much older than me (which is both good and bad)
No need to stay late if you consistently get the job done

    Cons

Redmond sucks - it's boring and the weather is bad
It can be hard to get noticed in such a big company
Pay is OK but not great, especially compared to recent Silicon Valley companies
Middle management is good, but some of the upper level decisions are questionable

    Advice to Management

    Keep hiring/promoting great managers

    Pros

Great work environment, reallocation was fully funded and visa was sponsored ( moved from NZ ).

    Cons

Minimal chance to move around as an intern (ie change projects).
However not really expected to be able to as an intern, so not so bad.

    Advice to Management

Create more internship opportunities, Microsoft was one of the best internships I've done, and would be great to see more people get the same chance I did.

It is hard to find anything bad about my internship

    Advice to Management

Great company. It is hard to give any advices as it is a big company.

  6. I was a high school intern at Microsoft, and I enjoyed working there, although I bet they threw away all our apps.

    Pros

Free drinks, the ability to brag to your friends, allows you to get better internships in college, and well... its' Microsoft!

    Cons

Kind of boring since they kind of just let you do whatever you wanted, so really... I could've just done everything at home.

    Advice to Management

I liked the internship, but maybe have a more structured internship.

    Pros

Great learning experience if you are just joining out of college. The people here have a great experience handling large software code bases, hence have a good quality code to work on.

    Cons

Not as challenging as other silicon valley companies.

    Pros

Diverse and interesting employees, collaborative environment, novel research projects, freedom to pursue research goals.

    Cons

Long hours, insufficient access to healthy food, older office cubicle environment, several layers of bureaucracy, confusing travel and research expense reimbursement,.

    Advice to Management

Closer management of project and a more in-depth understanding of employees' work would yield results faster.

    Pros

They spoil their interns like crazy -- talks from management, parties, social gatherings, alumni events for your school, gifts, food, etc.

    Cons

Very hierarchical, with a lot of focus on the chain of command and promotion.

    Advice to Management

There are folks who thrive more on being encouraged to be their best than on being encouraged to fit HR's promotion guidelines, even if those folks are encouraged to be their best in those areas. It's about rephrasing conversations about success.
