I have been working at NCI full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a job. At a loss here, the parameters for this input require at least 5 words for Pros. Can't think of anything.

    Cons

10% pay cut 2 years ago. VP comes out and blows smoke about 'saving our jobs and getting the pay back.' Seriously underbids the contract and gives us all a minimum of 8.5% pay cut, some got 25% or put on furlough (fancy term for being laid off without severance pay). Plus a slap in the face by renaming our positions to lower level titles. Between them and NETCOM's lack of leadership or management this is a terrible place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you expect loyalty and respect from your work force, you need to give it.

I have been working at NCI as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great client and location to work.
The pay if fair to good.

    Cons

This is not a people company, a body for a seat, they take away holidays that were neigoiated, cut salaries, and lay offs all the time. Very poor middle management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start caring about people and not your bottom line.

I have been working at NCI

    Pros

Some good people working to make a difference for our government and DoD

    Cons

Senior leadership keeps changing strategies to show the street they are making positive changes without much actual effect. Much of their talent has left and the company leaders who have made a difference were let go. Many of the new hires are from CSC reflecting the COO's past role at CSC. It is a very destabilizing environment contributing to poor morale.

Also, the amount of leave time awarded per year is low for the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The number of new hires who formerly worked for CSC is making the current, non-CSC employees uncomfortable. The morale is poor in the workforce. NCI needs to stabilize the existing work and then establish a roadmap to grow instead of the current declining numbers.

Charles Narang is a decent, honest man who is a pleasure to work for; however, he hasn't taken charge to move his company where he knows it should go.

I have been working at NCI full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

the people i work with. i have met some really good people working here over the years.

    Cons

the management in this plant do not know care about there employees. and the raises are very pathetic. $.010 to $.25 is what i have seen in almost 8 years of working here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

raises of $.10 or $.25 not even worth giving it out just making your employees mad. also treat your employees as if they make a difference and the will in turn actually make a difference. dont treat your employees as if they are just another person. also if you have a family they expect you to stay as late as it takes to make there money and you will loose out on your time with your family. and come time for reviews it makes no difference to them the sacrafices you made for them.

    I worked at NCI

    Pros

Those who do perform are very good and take up the slack for those who don't perform. The performers are great teammates.

    Cons

Too many non performers were protected by their "patrons" which made work difficult for team members who actually DO perform. It can sap morale from the team who have to step in where others fail repeatedly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold managers accountable for the non performers in their groups.

I have been working at NCI full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

NCI makes an effort to recruit top level talent, just make sure that you get what you are looking for compensation wise from the start. Don't fall for the "this is what we can bring you on at and then we'll bump you up down the road." I've seen that happen to a bunch of people at NCI.

    Cons

NCI tries to sell themselves as being bigger than they actually are. They'd like to think that they are one of the big dogs in the defense industry, but actually are struggling to stay afloat. About a year ago they brought in a big shot who was suppose to turn the company around. Instead when NCI started losing contracts because of poor proposal writing they took it out on their employees by cutting benefits. They took away everyone's sick leave that had already been accrued and instituted a new PTO program. The new program went into effect 1 Jan 2012. The employees were notified 31 Dec 2011. Some employees lost hundreds of hours of sick leave that they had accrued over years. And employees who had called out all the time and burned through all their sick leave were unaffected. They also cut 2 federal holidays which is retarded because the government is off so most of the installations are closed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward hard work and success. Hold your managers to task when evaluating performance. Don't let them hand out blanke reviews and raises. If an entire installation on a contract gets the same percentage increase in a performance period then someone is not doing their job. Also, an employee stock purchase plan would be great. The sick leave to PTO thing was a huge morale killer. You punished people who came to work everyday and rewarded call outs. Even if you had paid out a percentage of the accrued leave or transferred a percentage to PTO it would have at least shown that you appreciated the employees that had good attendance.

I worked at NCI full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good pay, smooth onboarding process. Upper management seemed friendly and sincere.

    Cons

Team lead was not very knowledgeable or friendly. Was little to no focus as to what exactly we were supposed to be doing. Had to create my own work to do since very little was handed down. Lines of responsibility were blurred. Lots of bureaucratic roadblocks and politics. Contract stability was dubious, double standards for some employees who apparently did not have to meet minimum requirements for their position. Most there seemed to do just the minimum to keep their job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rather than simply hiring to fill a seat, verify the person is competent in their skill set and has some motivation and initiative to work. Have some interaction with your employees and see how they are fitting in to their role.
