    Pros

Management seems to care about employees. Good and sometimes fun working atmosphere with supervisors who are supportive. Good benefits such as paid time off, medical + dental and fair pay for the work. Company is philanthropically oriented. While you're encouraged to sell, it's not the be-all end all of customer relations as much as customer and employee support is. By that I mean that while there was some pressure to sell, there weren't quotas or people breathing down your neck.

    Cons

Some customers could get rude or nasty at times, but that's kind of expected with any customer service job. I'm not sure that's Pier 1's fault as much as the fault of the entitlement society we live in. I started out seasonal, and it was never clear when they were going to let seasonal employees go. There was misinformation or no information given at times as far as how long the seasonal employment was going to continue. Some days it seems they just let a bunch of people go out of the blue.

    Advice to Management

Communicate better with your seasonal employees as far as how long the employment will last and don't keep people in the dark.

    Pros

The people I work with are a lot of fun, the merchandise is good quality and the discount is good (25%!) and they encourage teamwork.

    Cons

Schedules can stink sometimes -- I've worked as little as 4 hours some weeks. There's also limited incentives for us opening credit cards.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees more hours and more rewards for getting credit cards since you emphasize getting them so much.

    Pros

25% discount - even on clearance items. Employees are generally pleasant people. Store I worked at was not too busy and got to know regular customers and develop good relationships. Store environment is pleasing to the eye and decor is great. They worked with my schedule because they liked me (I wanted mornings) and they were eager to comply to keep me happy.

    Cons

Pay increases are minimal each year. Working store transitions are not fun if the store has the old-fashioned pedestals. Transitions can happen 1-2 times each month, usually on a Sunday night - start at 7-8 and finish at midnight or later. Some events transitions the entire store.

    Advice to Management

Better incentives should be offered for a job well done. The reward certificates can be $1, or $5. Not very much for those who work hard. Also, reward employees with better pay increases each year.

    Pros

The company has many service to help employees even with problems that do not relate to work. There is also a strong emphasis on ethically sustaining Pier 1 Imports from product design through to customer experience..

    Cons

Unpredictable future of the company. There are issues with order fulfillment that the store staff can feel unheard about. There is little feedback from the distribution center when arranging customer orders.

    Advice to Management

When issues arise document everything and organize it the way your higher-ups want it.
