I worked at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Was a fantastic place to work, a great group of people unfortunately the majority have either left or been let go.

    Cons

Uncertainty, the bank continues to fall on hard times with no real end in sight. Businesses will be sold or shut down and many more jobs will be cut.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with your employees and keep them informed. The more transparency the more appreciative the employees will be.

    Pros

Work can be varied and interesting. Money is decent and benefits are all good. A good work life balance and good colleagues

    Cons

Management are under pressure to achieve sales targets which filters all the way down who seem to encounter even greater pressure and threat of redundancy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please do the right thing by your employees and your customers and look at providing a service that people want not just a service to line your pockets

relaxed culture, bank going under a lot of changes and cuts, but the company is still very keen to keep the best talents they could attract

Current Employee - Various in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Same as for every large organisation: lots of various jobs available, and as professionalisation of functions is not high, it is often easy to get into something you have never done before. Current restructuring although a negative force in general is still creating new teams and opportunities.
Agile working ie people working from home Friday or more often is also a positive

    Cons

Restructuring = Massive layoffs. That says it all. Good people left through voluntary and sometimes not redundancy.
The chaos this was designed to eliminate continues though

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Now that the old structure has been streamlined, these are the same people who now started to create new layers of bureaucracy - watch out for that.
Did not see a single person promoted in 2 years at any level. Time to change?
