Great company across all departments and philosophies, with a medium-above average application of it's MyRyan program.

Intern (Current Employee) Dallas, TX (US)

ProsMyRyan is a reality for lots of employees, and there really is a meritorious environment. Lots of employee benefits, great PTO offerings.

ConsBonuses, and whether one advances or not is based solely on luck of the draw/who one knows. If you get stuck on a team in an industry such as retail, your bonuses will be lower than that of those in Defense Contractors or Oil and Gas. But it's worth the risk. Also lack of Administrative assistants means Associate Consultants, as well as Consultants must do extremely menial tasks for weeks on end.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't forget people on the lower level who drive your company, and remember to communicate on their level, despite the companies lofty future goals.

Best team experience of my career.

Consultant, Sales and Use Tax (Current Employee) Dallas, TX (US)

ProsGreat workplace flexibility. Office culture is easy going and coworkers are very hard working. Great incentives to work harder; performance based bonuses. Nice location.

ConsWhen I first started it was very hard to balance several projects at a time. There are many moving parts to the process, so you are required to sharpen your attention where it is most needed.

ProsBrint Ryan really believes in his company and growth.

ConsIf you do not have a degree, you will not get promoted even with the experience

Advice to Senior ManagementBe open to experience rather than a degree.

    Fast Paced

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA (US)

ProsPotential to earn significant bonuses based upon your position and the service line within which you work. The myRyan program was a big plus, especially for individuals trying to balance work and family responsibilities.

ConsBonus potential depends heavily on the service line and the industry/clients that you are assigned to.

    Good Company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat bonus structure and cultivates entrepreneurial spirit.

ConsCan experience the silo effect and can dampen creativity with burdensome policies.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease base pay, allow flexibility across practice areas and militate against silos.

The flexibility and innovation at Ryan, LLC are un-paralleled.

Senior Consultant, Sales and Use Tax (Current Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsRyan strives to keep their best talent by offering bonuses, outstanding flexibility and dedicated management.

ConsWe pay for casual Friday, but it goes to charity so it's not too much of a con.

Working for a company that has great goals, vision and leadership. Poor insurance options and decent compensation.

    Analyst Role (Current Employee)

ProsGreat work-life balance. Lots of PTO and flexibility. Great office location. Very thoughtful Firm Meetings.

ConsInsurance is really pricey out of pocket. It's been difficult to stay satisfied here when other well known companies offer better insurance and compensation. Ryan wants the Best talent but isn't willing to up the ante.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the great work, and try and dialogue on a friendly level once in a while.

    Great place to work for.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Los Angeles, CA (US)

ProsGood management. Good people. Good company policies and procedures. They give you flexibility in your work schedule. Not a Big 4, but they're just as good without the daily overtime.

ConsNot much. There will always be some office politics since people within the office have different personalities. Also, they recruit straight out of college like the Big 4s.. so there's a level of immaturity amongst those who are young.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing.

    Intern perspective

Intern (Current Employee) Dallas, TX (US)

ProsGreat flexibility! Even as an intern I was given quite a bit of flexibility throughout my internship. The bonus structure also makes the company quite competitive from the typical CPA firms. They also offer terrific training if you lack skills in programs such as excel and access. Their technical training wasn't very effective in my opinion however. I did accept a full time offer with the company. I do believe this is a great place to start a career if you don't want to do the whole big 4 thing while still doing taxes yet not spending countless hours doing tax returns. You get the opportunity to do a variety of tasks at Ryan which was nice.

ConsAlthough the bonus structure is great it takes a good deal of time before you see these bonuses. And as much as I hate to admit, your happiness at Ryan ultimately depends on what team you end up on. Not all managers are created equal and not all managers embrace the flexibility of myRyan. Thankfully, I had a wonderful manager but it is still a drawback of working there. I also couldn't stand how the company micromanages every little detail and requires multiple approvals for even the smallest things. I understand the company wants to effectively allocate their resources but some of these internal procedures are inefficient when you have to wait on management and ownership approval on certain things.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe flexibility is great but not all managers embrace this. Make sure all managers are following the blueprint set out by the CEO. Also I think at the current rate of growth with the company that some of the internal processes need to change to be more efficient. I also think interns should be entitled to bonuses for their work they contribute to projects as well. Interns are treated the same as first year consultants so I believe the work they spend on projects should be rewarded. Also I think the hourly pay rate needs to be closer to the CPA competitors.
