I have been working at SYKES full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

My particular assignment was in was easy breezy, I had lots of free time to do other things (which shall go undescribed), but this pro is specific to me.

    Cons

My experience was that they didn't promote according to merit. My businesses don't, unfortunately, but this company takes the cake. The out-going supervisor employed his old school friend --- who was SO illiterate he couldn't spell simple words correctly. Neither could he type more than 10 words a minute. The old school friend brought the whole show into collapse when the client (whose offices we worked in) fired Sykes and got a fresh team. The "old school friend", hired unmeritoriously, has been unemployed ever since.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a culture of sensing talent and giving recognition and reward for it. Realize that hiring on the basis of friendship can cause loss to the company and, as I witnessed, loss to your own job.

I have been working at SYKES full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Young, fun, group of people to meet/ work with.
    Learning about financial products/banking
Its easy to get away with not doing any work as the managers are total airheads.

    Cons

Management are absolutely useless and it will ruin your time at work. Staff have been underpaid for a month and it won't be corrected for months as team managers are very unhelpful. You will be thrown in the deep end with little training and no support. Team Managers will not answer questions, you are told to look it up whilst customers are getting angry on the phone awaiting a simple answer to be confirmed when you are unsure. You will deal with abusive customers everyday and when they ask to speak to a manager the managers will make excuses to speak and have you deal with them in other ways. You may not be comfortable with the work you are undertaking and you will still be trained into extra departments (e.g complaints line) without a choice and with no pay rise. You will be Never will be appreciated for doing good work only spoken to when you are being coached on how to reach unrealistic targets. Thing I have learnt most over the year is Westpac is actually a terrible bank so be prepared to deal with complaints and abusive customers. After 6 months if you are always well behaved and have good statistics you can apply for a team manager position where you will earn a massive increase of 50 cents per hour. There is no where to progress from team manager. This is essentially a call centre who has no real connection with Westpac bank.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Team managers are first point of contact for all employees. Hire competent people with management experience, not people with neck and face tattoos who are looking for the 50c pay rise per hour. I've never seen such a massive staff turn over at a workplace, it's clearly because the staff are just treated as numbers.

I have been working at SYKES full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

you sit all day. that's all the pros i can think of. oh and they feed us sometimes like during CS "appreciation" week.

    Cons

everything is a challenge, horrible place to work. i've been there a year and some change and it just keeps getting worse. oh and they don't really require people to shower or care for personal hygiene. they complain if we eat on the call floor but then they sell us nachos and cheese and pretzels that we're all so damn sick of. so basically it's like, no outside food but if you buy what we sell you can eat it, also we have to pay to wear our own clothes, $10 a week to "dress down" that's a whole paycheck at the end of the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

management sucks. they need to fire everyone and start new. management at sykes- allentown is a JOKE. they are so unprofessional and they LOVE to belittle us... what would sykes be without us? what would they be if all of us just got up and walked out? who would take all the calls? lOl too bad no one is bold enough to do it.

I have been working at SYKES full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The company is pretty good in terms of how they train you and the level of customer service you are trained to offer is great. The concepts behind the training and how you are taught to ho above and beyond each customer is something I admire.

    Cons

Once you actually hit the floor you realize that things might not be so professional. Employees date each other, the people who are supposed to be supervising and providing assistance are often nowhere to be found especially at night. You walk in and someone is sitting at your desk. During the hiring process you are told you make 9.50/hr and once you hit the floor you are paid 10.00/hr and also are able to earn the incentive at that point. During training we were also told that we will qualify for holiday pay. Once you hit the floor you are told that you don't start making 10/hr or get paid for overtime or get paid for working on holidays until you've been there not just after 6 months but after their random 6 month cycle catches up. So you could be there for 1.5 yrs and still are being compensated as if you're still in training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company has a high turnover rate because it does not pay enough. They train you to provide excellent quality customer service to customers and set high standards for employees to meet. However employees are not going to settle for being paid little or nothing for excellent quality work. There are a lot of people within the company who love what they do, but simply cannot stay because they have bills to pay.
For someone who is trying to save and build a future for themselves, there simply is no room for that here.

    I worked at SYKES

    Pros

There are no pros for working at Sykes in Kingstree, SC.

    Cons

Everything, my last team manager sent an email to my whole team stating that I was being fired, & nothing happened to him. He was not professional and should have been suspended for what he's done, all I know is that Sykes in Kingstree happens to be a very toxic & unprofessional work environment.
