    State Farm RDC Rocked

Systems Intern (Current Employee) Champaign, IL (US)

ProsGreat work environment and a lot of good friends. Pay was decent for no experience. They take care of you.

ConsNot much direction from the team. You are pretty much assigned a problem and they don't really mentor you through the process of writing production level code. A lot of the work doesn't actually see the light of day.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake your intern's work have an impact.

Great Program. Learned a lot about the industry.

    Intern (Current Employee)

ProsOther employees worked with were great and very helpful. Treated like a normal employee. Given very realistic preview of the normal office routine. Great support.

ConsNot many. Kind of slow at times but that is to be expected. If your interested in a summer internship program, State Farm is a great place to look.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue the program to keep younger employees with a lot of talent looking at the company for a career.

Great Internship Program - Not so great entry-level

Marketing Intern (Former Employee) San Jose, CA (US)

ProsThe internship program in 2009 for college undergraduates was an amazing learning experience, I was a marketing intern in the SF Bay Area. They paid for our company cards, travel to the internship competition and opportunity to present for corporate. Great experience learning about marketing strategy and how interact with executives! Heavy recruiting for entry-level positions.

ConsEntry-level positions were only in claims roles that were not well paid or suited to any other interests.

    Internship Review

Clerical Intern (Former Employee) Huntington Beach, CA (US)

ProsFriendly people, very nice place to work at. The agents there were all kind to me, and answered my questions whenever I had one about their job.

ConsEnded up doing menial tasks for most of the time, though this was more on my fault anyone else's. Could've taken initiative more to take on more and more difficult tasks.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally work with interns more and try to challenge them. If they don't meet your expectations, then give them something easier, but most interns should have strong abilities to achieve more than what you originally thing.

This company is incredibly engaged with its employees and I don't want to work anywhere else.

College Intern (Current Employee) Valencia, CA (US)

ProsThe way they treat their employees, the best remarkable experience for their customers, and their balance of treating employees like royalty and making sure that we're are also customer centric.

ConsYou have to be flexible in location to be able to move up to management positions.

Cushy place w/good work/life balance but slow advancements

Intern (Former Employee) Bloomington, IL (US)

ProsState Farm has a great work/life balance - from workplace events to the State Farm Park, etc. etc.
Benefits and compensation are good, and there is a good corporate culture of valuing loyalty to the company.

ConsIf you're like me and like to be challenged and thrilled each day at work, this is not the place. Things move slowly.

Advice to Senior ManagementInterns want to learn so use them! But don't just stick them w/paper pushing - that'll turn off your brilliant potentials because they'll want to seek out more exciting opportunities.
