I have been working at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

It varies, but I interns are overall pretty free to develop as they see fit.
    Flexible hours.
A few fun activities throughout the semester.

    Cons

Progress can be slow and people in the company often don't email back if you have questions.
Lots of paperwork to do simple things.
Lots of restrictions on what we're allowed to do, such as download software on the provided machines.
Not a ton of feedback, as projects leads often don't have a programing background and you may only be around fellow interns who know as much as you.

I have been working at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

You get to work with a bunch of interns that are your age and get pretty interesting work compared to a lot of "intern work" at big companies

    Cons

The people are very friendly but seem to be very settled in their careers and lack motivation to do more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep professionals motivated by encouraging growth. Employees should want to find new opportunities and not just settle in where they are. Great family culture, but lack of fit when you have a very professional mindset.

I worked at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Overall everybody in the company was very nice. The pay is decent but not amazing as an intern. As long as you did everything you were told, you will get a returning offer from them.

    Cons

The company is very old. Many employees has been there for a long time which is good because that means there is stability in the company and people like enough to stay. However, this also means that change is hard. In a big company with a lot of older folks, it will be hard for them to accept progressive changes to the company.

I have been working at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Provides a lot of training, super friendly staff, variety of projects to get different experiences

    Cons

Can get boring since it is insurance, but the company cares a lot about developing you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It can get annoying being an intern at innovation ready and knowing that it would take a significant amount of time to get our idea through with the many barriers a company as large as State Farm has.

I have been working at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Gained experience and exposure to what the insurance business was all about. Had a great team and enjoyed going to work for the most part. Some good skills to add to your resume.

    Cons

Team members aren't always perfect at agencies. Low pay as an intern. Felt somewhat dead end if you don't want to go the agent route or move to Bloomington.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay team members more, other than that you do a fantastic job. I don't know a lot about the management culture at corporate.

I have been working at State Farm as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Very nice people, decent hours (9am to 4 or 5pm), I am able to work on what I want to work on throughout the day with the help of any of the office staff when I need them.

    Cons

Lower hourly rate than what I would like, office staff is not getting commission for any of their sales, the agent gets all of it which I think is not very fair (but it does not really affect me, I just feel bad for the ladies putting in all the work)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage agents to commission their staff.

I have been working at State Farm part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great work environment and a lot of good friends. Pay was decent for no experience. They take care of you.

    Cons

Not much direction from the team. You are pretty much assigned a problem and they don't really mentor you through the process of writing production level code. A lot of the work doesn't actually see the light of day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make your intern's work have an impact.
