I worked at SunGard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, diversity of people due to multiple acquisitions, global reach, good training and incentives for sales people. Some segments are doing very well with above par products and people.

    Cons

Too conservative on innovation, lack of investment and ambition on R&D, synergies between various segments very limited. One weak segment can drag the reputation of the whole company down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Limit the reach and size and stick to what SunGard does best: Back and Middle Office, Accounting systems and Risk spin-off or sell under performing segments.

I have been working at SunGard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very good benefits package including vacation accrual and tuition reimbursement and work/life is good depending on your location.

    Cons

It depends on your location and your manager, as in any company. some divisions have alot of attention directed to them and their product is kept up to date. others are not actively supported and they end up getting laid off and / or their office closes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I wish it was more structured in terms of pay increases but I think they have made small steps in the right direction.

I worked at SunGard full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Lots of product lines catering to just about every market. Globally recognized name (can be a pro or con).

    Cons

SunGard grows by acquisition but does not do a great job of integrating those new businesses. The senior people in each acquired unit tend to have their eye on the door or on a more senior role elsewhere at SG and you are left with a lot of C+ talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through on some of the integration of the acquired businesses.

Current Employee - Business Analyst in London, England (UK)

I have been working at SunGard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The work-life balance is probably the best I've had in my career. And for around a year, there's the ability to learn both the technological and business-based aspects of your role.

    Cons

Once you've been in the job a while, boredom tends to creep in. There is realistically very little chance of career progression owing to the acquisition-based nature of the company, meaning teams work in silos without much interaction across products, let alone departments and divisions. The compensation package is not fantastic, but owing to the good work-life balance, it's acceptable. Senior management can be based in another part of the globe, meaning you don't have any contact with them from one year to the next.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Career progression for employees needs to improve, otherwise good talent will always be on the look out for jobs elsewhere. Senior management needs to improve interaction with it's staff.
