I worked at TIBCO Software full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You will be exposed to lots of technologies. Good place to get your feet wet. 401K with matching. Good health benefits.

    Cons

There is no guide or training to get started with TIBCO Software. Sink or swim. There used to be a lot of good people there. Most are gone. Recently aquired by Vista Equity, the board left 100M on the table in a spreadsheet error. Thanks guys! Management will tell you in no uncertain terms that the days of raises are over and that you can make more money working for other customers. Guess what, they are right! They will tell you to stay to be with the best techology. That used to be true. However, that is no longer the case. Other companies have caught up. Aquisitions are never fully integrated into the full technology stack. There is never enough engineering to get things done to stay competitive and products wither. The most unprofessional head of sales I have ever encountered, has the mouth of a gutter rat. Company "pep talks" are demeaning and demoralizing. Expect to sell in a culture of fear. If you decide to join TIBCO as a SC, make sure you get placed with a successful account executive and interview the AE before you come on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating your people on the streets better. Beef up engineering. Get rid of the clown who swears like a gutter rat. You know who I'm talking about. Stop rolling out products that aren't fully functional.

    Pros

Spotfire and the Analytics division are very solid and great technologies.

    Cons

All the great people are leaving or have left. Mgmt has no clue and the people put in place will have a tough time righting this sinking ship. It was terrible when the Senior Mgmt from Palo Alto were running this place into the ground and showing how to NOT work together and continue the infighting that defined this company. The best thing that happened to them was Vista...the worse thing was Vista not being smart enough to get rid of the same Mgmt responsible for the mess that is Tibco. All the good people were smart enough to leave already and anyone who joins now must be crazy or can't get a job anywhere else. The smartest thing they could do now is sell off the old technology to someone else and focus on Analytics which is their only hope!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Vista needs to put some boots on the ground to see what is really goes on and make some swift changes...

    Pros

Great, Smart and hardworking people. The field team works well together. Interesting and cutting edge technology to work on. A lot of pressure but a lot of fun

    Cons

Over the last couple of years Company seems to have last it's way.
A lot of mismanagement by the executives put the company in a place where they had to sell out to venture capital firm Vista.

The layoffs and cost cutting have begun; morale is bad and getting worse.
I not sure what the future holds for us

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    to late they are gone
current management just the slave of the Equity Fund.

Privately held: TIBCO can be a challenging place to work.

    I worked at TIBCO Software

    Pros

TIBCO's standard middleware products are solid and customer satisfaction is high, especially on support. Compensation for sales is competitive for the industry. Cooperation between sales and technical support and engineering is high.

    Cons

Very high turnover in all areas of the organization - especially sales. Most of the executives and senior management have left following the recent privatization from VISTA Equity Partners. From a sales perspective, very short runway to ramp-up and most of the new hires are required to spin their rolodex for new business. TIBCO still has yet to offer credible cloud (SaaS, iPaas & Paas), or a mobile solution, and will need to completely reinvent invent itself if they are to survive against new market entrants. Spotfire analytics not competitive against Tableau, Qlick or Microstrategy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For a company with the history that TIBCO has, they will need to stop operating as a start-up with knee-jerk reactions to decision making on every situation that occurs, and start to operate as a modern organization with effective policies and procedures. Need a solid execution and go-to market strategy for all product lines.

I have been working at TIBCO Software full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

TIBCO has some cool technologies and some nice product.

    Cons

Mgmt went on a spending spree a few years ago and purchased a hodge-podge of companies without a clear plan. There doesn't seem to be a company-wide vision. When I worked there at least 5 separate groups were working on a "cloud solution" without any coordination between them. Instead of leveraging common tools/knowledge they each struggled individually (as though in competition) and none succeeded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Drop that stupid "have fun!" tag line and just focus on running the company. You have so many smart people - start using them to develop products people actually WANT and not just the new "hot thing" just for the sake of sounding cool! And never, ever again make a video of senior company officials SINGING. I still relive that horror occasionally :-).

    Pros

Used to be a nice place to work, some interesting challenges....

    Cons

After Vista Private Equity acquisition the company is no longer a good place to work. They fired hundreds of people after the acquisition. There is no clear strategy behind this decision, Vista just needed to reduce costs in order to pay for the huge amount of debt it incurred as result of the acquisition. There is also no clear strategy behind the product roadmap and the management team, which are ultimately responsible for the TIBCO failure, got promoted along the way.

I wouldn't advise buying TIBCO products as some of them might just disappear as Vista will decommission products that are not interesting for them.

In summary, Vista PE will make a lot of money and kill a great company along the way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too late for advice. They already messed up big time.

I worked at TIBCO Software full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

-Work from home flexibility when needed
    -Casual office
    -Overall okay coworkers

    Cons

    -Disorganization
-Lack of training for new hires regarding any sort of company policies regarding expenses, po's, approval processes contractors etc (there is a company employee site that has some docs but most are outdated and not detailed)
-Lack of benefits for MA employees, no gym for example, even though there was a gym in the location's building- Not even a discount was allowed to us- The Palo Alto location however receives that benefit.
-Extremely unprofessional looking office space- Including-things like thrifted office furniture, a kitchen out in the open from the year 1972 and all outdated scanners, printers etc Very low end for a large organization. No amount of cleaning or organization could make it appear acceptable for customer meetings our outsiders to visit
-Facilities management never in the office, they have the person split between two locations
-Very poor communication skills between headquarters and other offices- it's unacceptable when all the offices rely on responses or follow ups/ approvals from the main office- I and countless others had to save emails and documents going back years because of their lack of professionalism to prove they were sent with documents that were needed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Clear communication
Clearly worded expectations when assigning tasks that are outside the daily expectations
Follow up with employees on yearly review cycles- it is required by each one of us to file the paper work/ it should be required of you to read and review in order to ensure the employee better understands how they can improve.
Update your outdated expense systems and approval processes/ make people accountable for their time management in regards to both.
Finances- the office I worked at frequently did not have their bills paid on time- internet and phone services were cut off more than once which is completely unacceptable for such a large organization.
Spend less money on hundred dollar lunches and tens of thousands of dollars on "kick offs" and more on a nicer facility, updated equipment from this century and a employee training day, on their first day which includes all the basics.

    Pros

Interesting collection of technologies - in danger of becoming obsolete

    Cons

Leadership is a term that doesn't apply here. It's all about senior managers looking out for themselves and their drinking buddies

    Terrible internal systems and processes...

Success depends more on who you know rather than what you do...

Comp plans are notoriously late in being approved. My 2014 plan came in the end of October ... the FY ends 30 November

The company has no cloud strategy or product base
