Overall a good company to work for

Senior Analyst (Current Employee)
Sydney

I have been working at Westpac Banking full-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Great flexibility such as work from home etc.
- Lots of internal opportunities but obviously will have to go through the normal job application process
- Great employee benefits

Cons- Pay scale bit low compared to other banks
- Training opportunities depends on your manager
- Pay rise not consistent across the divisions

Advice to Senior ManagementToo much politics at Senior Management level but I guess it is the norm in corporate world!!! Wish they would work together more for the company rather than building their own empire.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

On balance - positive

Manager (Former Employee)
Sydney

I worked at Westpac Banking full-time for more than 8 years

ProsOf all the organisations that I have worked for, Westpac has the best balance. Given it's size, there are pockets of good and bad leadership. The trick is to find the good.
I was particularly proud of Westpac's commitment to the community and supporting diversity in the work place.

ConsThere are way too many pockets of bad leadership and you need to be able to play the political game.

Decent place to work for if you are tied up by children/family burden

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Sydney

I have been working at Westpac Banking full-time for more than 3 years

ProsWorking hours are flexible and workload is acceptable. In general, Westpac is the place to have work life balance while you get paid above average salary in the financial services industry. Westpac is a huge organisation and it does encourage people to move around different teams. For example, a department head is required to swap roles with another department head every 3 to 4 years in order to challenge themselves. Employee benefits are excellent and can save heaps of money.

ConsSome people are lazy and don't know what they are doing. Since they have been with the bank for a long time, the company cannot get rid of them easily. If you are a highly ambitious employee, you should look elsewhere. This is the domestic commercial bank for people who want work life balance.

Auditor

Audit (Current Employee)
Sydney

I have been working at Westpac Banking as a contractor for less than a year

ProsGood reputation. Once worked with Westpac it would be easy to find next role. Great location, very convenient to access by train and can spend lunch time at Darling harbour

ConsThe audit team is a very very quiet team. People dont talk to each other. My colleagues are always looking at their laptops or sometime make phone calls. Most of people had lunch alone.
