Former Employee – worked at Whirlpool full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Flexible schedule and good pay.
Cons – Their PMP review system is a joke. With this system, management has to give an employee a "needs improvement" or "exceeds improvement' rating every year regardless of their performance.
Promotion is based on who you know and not what you know or how you perform.
The appliance industry is very competitive now and the only reason Whirlpool has been profitable the last few years is cut backs to cost and not volume.
Advice to Senior Management – Get rid of the PMP system. If you can't rely on your managers to give an accurate assessment of each employee, they shouldn't be in management.

Current Employee – been working at Whirlpool as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – Good work environment. Get to try new things often. Most of the people are fun to be around. Management takes their job seriously but knows how to lighten up.
Cons – Constant lay offs to temps. Cant afford anything with $10/ hour and no benefits as a temp. Takes two years for direct hire.

Former Employee – worked at Whirlpool full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Great starter company to work for. Care about growth potential for new, young hires.
Cons – More development opportunities are needed for experienced employees. WHR encourages and supports continuous growth and development for young employees, but when you've been with the company several years you typically don't see that same level of commitment and you get lost in the shuffle All roads lead to Benton Harbor....not great for single people.
Advice to Senior Management – Focus on growth and development for strong candidates. Figure out new ways to to retain lower/middle level mgmt.
