I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Civil Service United Kingdom in Apr 2024
The interview process was straightforward. Once invited to interview, you could book one of several slots online. The interview took one hour, with a panel of three, and included a five minute presentation. Still waiting to hear back about the result. Standard civil service behaviour type questions.
- Tell me about a time you handled conflicting opinions within a team.

I applied online. I interviewed at Civil Service United Kingdom (London, England)
Stage 1 - application was just CV so no opportunity to express suitability, interest etc. Stage 2 - assessment questions, extremely relevant to the role and giving case studies to analyse and review Stage 3 - formal interview, very warm interviewers. Some questions were quite technical and looking ahead at what you might do in the role. Others were more to understand your experience prior. Questions were mostly ones I hadn't been asked again.
- What is your motivation for applying for the role

the process was tough, with varied questions and niche answers you have to be prepared. I hope to apply again soon. It would be a dream to work there. Thanks to Glassdoor I will feel more prepared.
- Do you want this Job

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Civil Service United Kingdom (Manchester, England)
They asked 4 questions, 2 strength and 2 behavioural. They emailed 2 behavioural questions a week before the interview, which was helpful. One of the strength questions was “what have you done recently that you’re most proud of” (I’m paraphrasing it).
- What have you done recently that you’re most proud of?

hard but fair, they tried their best to make the process as smooth as possible but to be honest it did feel biased towards people from the top unis so i wasn’t really sure that i had a chance from the start being from manchester met
- Group task in a team

Very long and protracted. Civil service competencies. Written application with examples of scenarios, interview including written test which needs to then be presented orally. Sometimes also includes a psychometric test
- Describe a time when you have had to act in a leadership role with a difficult client

Fairly simple video interview, some online tests but is doable. Training is given for the role which is good, and friendly team so far (only new to the role). It was online, and you have to record yourself,

Comprehensive multi-stage interview process including competency tests, short essay-style written questions and a technical test followed by in-person Teams interview. The interview process felt very impersonal and full of hoops to jump through, particularly in the early stages. In-person interview was fine, with reasonably friendly interviewers, but did feel like you were being tested on a mark-scheme instead of interviewed about your personal experience and qualifications.
- Describe a situation where you delivered a project at pace

I interviewed at Civil Service United Kingdom
First completed an analytical assessment. Then asked a variety of questions, some about analysing data and some covering the CS behaviours mentioned in the job spec - I can't remember the exact questions.
- Why do you want to work at [department]?

It was good, very professional and was interesting and fun. The first one I did wasn’t really that great but it felt like I had a lot more experience this time which helped.
