Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Madison, WI (US) Apr 2012 – Reviewed Apr 13, 2012
Interview Details
Applied though their website on the recommendation of a friend. Received an email later that day to complete a Rembrandt assessment online within the next 24-48 hours. Assessment consisted of personality questions interspersed with easy math/logic problems and lasted about 25 minutes. Received and email on Monday of the following week asking me to schedule a phone interview for the following week.
Phone interview occurred on a Monday afternoon and consisted of basic questions. Why Epic? Walk me through your resume? What experiences on your resume do you think would help you succeed at Epic and why? How do you feel about travel? Are you willing to relocate to Madison? Then there was time for me to ask question (about 50/50). Interviewer was honest and gave very detailed answers. I would recommend having a lot of question prepared as the interviewer was done with his questions 15 minutes into the 30 minute interview. Did not send a thank you note but still received an by Friday of that week asking me to schedule a time to take a series of skills assessments at a nearby Person Vue professional testing center.
Did my assessments Monday morning at a community college about 50 miles from my campus (closest one, Epic didn't offer to reimburse for gas but I also didn't ask so no big deal). One 14 question math test with very difficult GMAT style problems (minus data interpretation). Was allowed to use a basic 4 function calculator. One 'programming' that asked difficult logic questions based on a simple introduction to a fake programming language. Tests are evaluated based on both speed and accuracy (I took 120 or the allotted 160 minutes). No studying can be done for this test but I think they cut you some slack on the programming test if you've never programmed before as there is a preliminary question asking for your programming experience. Received and email Wednesday (I had noted that I had another offer pending so they sped up the process for me - very very accommodating thoughout the whole process) to schedule my on-site visit to Epic in Verona (Madison suburb).
Epic paid for absolutely everything on this trip (flights, nice hotel, cabs, food). I arrived in Madison on a Monday morning and spent the day napping, wandering downtown, and preparing my presentation (part of the on-site process). Had a very informal, purely informational dinner with two Epic employees and one other recruit that night. Woke up around 6AM the next day to get ready for my 7:30 departure from the hotel to Epic's campus. Dressed in khakis and a sweater (it was cold even in April!) but at no point felt underdressed at the interview. Day was long and consisted of (in order for me):
1. Short info session and tour (group of 10 or so recruits)
2. Epic software demonstration (group of 10 or so recruits)
3. Role description with a PM/IC (group of 3 recruits)
4. Presentation (10 minutes) in front of a panel of three employees (solo)
5. Case (with one other recuit)
6. Lunch with an Epic PM/IC (group of 6 recruits)
7. Thirty minute interview with a PM/IC (solo)
8. Forty-five minute interview with a member of HR (solo)
9. Fifteen question verbal assessment evaluated on both speed and accuracy (solo)
Nothing too complicated overall. Long day but everyone is friendly and outgoing, even we recruits talked amongst ourselves. Be youself, be outgoing, show desire to work for Epic, enjoy your time on their beautiful/crazy/eclectic campus.
Received my offer the next day (because of my other pending offer) and immediately accepted it.
Interview Question – Tell me five things you are not (personality wise)? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – Didn't negotiate as the offered salary and benefits seemed more than reasonable and were considerably better than those of my other offer.
