Sales Associate at Macy's

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Oviedo, FL (US) May 2013 – Reviewed May 17, 2013 New

Interview Details I had submitted my application and resume online and got an email the next day asking to schedule an interview. Within the time between scheduling and the actual interview I mostly looked on this website for insight as to what to expect when I am there. The questions are pretty much the same as everything that is on here from "Why do you want to work at Macy's?" to "What would you do if you say an employee or customer acting suspiciously?" The woman I interviewed with was very nice, friendly, and easy going.

In general if you want to have a good interview I'd say get there around ten minutes early, make sure you go over in your head what you would say to the questions posted on this website, and be natural. They like honest people who aren't shy and nervous. Try to be welcoming to any person you see while you're going to or waiting for your interview as well, I actually met my interviewer downstairs before I even knew who she was.

Interview Question – "Describe a situation where you were forced to make a quick decision that you were unhappy in making?"
She said, though, that if I had not experienced it then just to say if I would get over it or brood over it the whole day. Obviously the better answer to say is that you would get over it.
  Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation. As I was going for a part-time, non-commission, flexible scheduling option they could only put me in three departments that all paid minimum wage.

Summer Store Management Intern at Macy's

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Boca Raton, FL (US) Mar 2013 – Reviewed May 17, 2013 New

Interview Details First, I met with Macy's at my university's career showcase. Then, if you get a callback the interview is 2 parts-- (all in one day!). One portion is a behavioral interview (tell me a time when...) and the other portion is one where they give you actual statistics on employees and what you would do in that situation (more of a situational feel). Be prepared to speak a lot because this interview is really all about YOU, not really about Macy's or company culture.

Interview Question – The most difficult question was what is the difference between a leader and a manager. Also, make sure you know what the MyMacy's approach is and MAGIC selling as well.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiations... the pay is $15/hr

Sales Associate at Macy's

No Offer – Interviewed in Pasadena, CA (US) May 2013 – Reviewed May 17, 2013 New

Interview Details I applied online, within 2 days got an email inviting me for the interview, for 1 week later. I arrived 10 minutes early, She came an introduced herself, she seemed very nice and friendly, quite casual. All She did was read from a list of questions, then wrote down my answers, nothing difficult all the questions have been posted on here. She then left the room for a couple of minutes telling me she will check what they have, On her return she said I'm sorry we don't have any positions available at this time, I will keep your application open, Thank you for your time. It ended very abruptly. 4 Days later i receive an email saying thank you for your interest but we do not have positions to suit your expertise at this time.. I don't understand why they post Job offers when they don't have any to give Its a waste of everyone's time.

Interview Question – Nothing difficult , all sales related questions   Answer Question

Part-time Sales Associate at Macy's

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Miami, FL (US) – Reviewed May 16, 2013 New

Interview Details Applied online and received an email the next day asking to sign up for an interview time online. I signed up for an interview and went in two days later. The ladies in HR were very friendly and nice. I was 15 minutes early and waited less than 5 minutes for the interviewer. I noticed she read my application which felt like they were very organized. She asked me to tell a little bit about myself and my previous job. She then looked up what positions were available and took me to tour that area as well as meet some of the employees and managers in that department. They were all very welcoming and friendly. When we returned she offered me the job and I start training the next day.
I also wore all black with pearls and heels and I could tell they were pleased.
Just a tip: I think it is very important to have the image they are looking for. It is important to have experience but they will teach you everything you need to know, but being friendly and having the look is something they obviously cannot teach you.

Interview Question – Tell me about yourself.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – No negotiation. Told me what the commission rate was and what I would expect to be making. I'm in college so the fact that I'm offered commission is enough for me.

Recovery at Macy's

No Offer – Interviewed in Pleasanton, CA (US) Jan 2013 – Reviewed May 14, 2013 New

Interview Details The lady who interviewed me literally read through the various questions asked on this site. "Why Macy's... How would you go selling this... difficult positions". She has the print out and just wrote the answers I gave her into the blank areas.

Interview Question – Had to work around the Qs regarding customer service since I am a college student who never had a job, however I answered them as though in a school setting.   Answer Question

No Offer – Interviewed in Lynchburg, VA (US) Apr 2013 – Reviewed May 13, 2013 New

Interview Details I went into the waiting area where they hold interviews, and waited about 20-25 minutes but I was about 10 minutes early. The interviewer was a very nice lady, she took me into a small office and asked me a number of questions, most of them are available on here. I was a bit nervous initially but overall I didn't feel like the interview process went terrible. She said she would be in touch and I received an email a day or two later telling me that I did not get the job.

Interview Details Signed up to interview through university job board. After being selected for a first round interview, found that it consisted of two parts: a one-on-one interview with a store manager and a case study scenario.

Interview Question – The case study was difficult because of preparation time constraints.   Answer Question

Beauty Advisor at Macy's

No Offer – Interviewed in Sacramento, CA (US) May 2013 – Reviewed May 13, 2013 New

Interview Details I applied online and after a few weeks was emailed to set up my interview. When I arrived (15 minutes early) I was the only one there. When my interviewer arrived he took me into a room and we began. He basically read off of a paper and made notes as we went along. The questions were standard, but definitely focused on how much I knew about cosmetics and how I would go about helping a customer. Overall decent experience, but I was told the position was no longer available. He instead put me down to be contacted if any other positions in any other department of Macy's were to come up.

Interview Question – How would you go about selling a facial cleanser to a customer who is not used to using specific skin care products?   Answer Question
