Office Supply Associate at Staples

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Fort Gratiot, MI (US) Jul 2011 – Reviewed May 18, 2013 New

Interview Details I was quickly contacted for an interview about a week after I applied. My initial reaction upon walking into the store was that it was a very relaxed enviroment, and everyone was super friendly. The interview did get interupted a few times as we were interviewing in the furnature pad area and associates and customers kept stopping us for help. I had a second interview a couple days later and was about the same. Upon driving home that same day, i was called back and told i had recieved the job.

Interview Question – I think the most difficult question anywhere you apply is "Why staples?" or "Why do you want this position?" You really don't know too much about a particular place unless you research it ahead of time. You don't want to sound like your making everything up, but there is also some uncertainity in answering those questions.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – It was just a phone call saying i have been offered the job and my pay rate is set at $7.45. Since then, the pay has gone up.

Cashier/Sales Associate at Staples

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Madison, AL (US) – Reviewed May 14, 2013 New

Interview Details I applied online and was called back by a manager to come in for an interview the following day. The process was fairly quick- I went into his office and he asked me a few questions and had me fill out some paperwork. He was very flirty and unprofessional (later on after I got the job he continued being this way-such a creeper). I initially applied for a position in the copy center and told that's what I'd have, but they put me on a cash register and I didn't do anything else other than stock once for the two months that I worked there. I was given a shirt uniform that day three times larger than my body and told to "make it work". The rest of the process was ridiculous, as I watched videos all day that they considered "training". Overall, it was a bad experience.

Interview Question – "Why do you want to work at Staples?"   View Answer

Negotiation Details – There was absolutely NO negotiation- the manager didn't even tell me what the pay was until well into the interview. Surprise, surprise, it was minimum wage.

Easy Tech Associate at Staples

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Lynchburg, VA (US) May 2009 – Reviewed Apr 26, 2013

Interview Details After applying for a sales position (though my resume showed IT experience in school and other jobs) I was called in for a new position they had created for their new Easy Tech department. The online application included a personality survey which seemed to indicate to them a resistance to leadership and or sales environments as most of the questions posed were asking if I would be comfortable selling and taking leadership. I was fine with both, though some prior experiences led me to be reluctant to lie to customers as I was directed in a previous job. The first interview was with the store manager and the assistant stock keeping manager. The store manager was the most apprehensive. This led to a second interview with the sales manager (who would be my supervisor) and the Tech Expert (a sales position normally) who asked basically the same questions along with questions about prior successes in sales and whether I was interested in moving up with the company in the future. The Sales manager asked me a few questions testing my PC repair knowledge. They seemed to want a more 'bubbly and effervescent' personality but they hired me as the most qualified applicant.

Interview Question – The manager insisted I should be available on Sundays because they require that from all their applicants.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – The only negotiation was about Sundays and that I required as close to 40 hours a week as they could manager for a part time position. They hired me despite not working Sundays and mostly kept me above 30 hrs a week for almost 3 years.

Copy Center Associate at Staples

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on New York, NY (US) Sep 2012 – Reviewed Apr 24, 2013

Interview Details I applied online for a Sales Associate position. I received a call a few weeks later for an interview at a nearby store. The store didn't have an opening for a Sales Associate, but they had an opening for a Cashier and a Copy Center Associate. I went through a quick, over-the-phone interview. Then they invited me to the store for another interview. A week later they called and offered me the job as a Copy Center Associate.

Interview Question – My interviews consisted of basic questions for a retail position. I was asked about my experience and how I handled difficult situations at past jobs.   Answer Question

EasyTech Associate at Staples

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Mar 2013 – Reviewed Apr 22, 2013

Interview Details Call to ask if your local store is currently hiring and if they are apply online. Call back within a week and ask if you can speak with the hiring manager, they will most likely give you an interview. You will first interview with an assistant manager and then the general manager. Dress business casual (as nice as you can without a suit).
There was no drug test when I interviewed but this may vary from store to store.

Interview Question – They ask a lot of questions about your previous work experience and how you handle situations such as customer complaints and what you would do if you do not know the answer to a question.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Part time wages for associates start around $7-$8 depending on experience. There is not much room for negotiation.
