Anonymous Interview Candidate in New York, NY
Application
I applied in-person. The process took 2+ months.I interviewed at TSA (Transportation Security Administration) (New York, NY) in 01/01/2020
Interview
Applied in September (vacancy was open in January). Took and passed my test and credit check and in October and was contacted about my interview being in January. The interview was terrible. Not only was I interviewed by 2 TSA agents, they seemed unprofessional and were not personable at all. I expected questions about who I was and those leading to what I can offer, why I wanna work for TSA, and then some situational questions and how I handled them. I was literally only asked situational questions and they were extremely complicated. I had never/barely had any experience with what they asked about and could not provide specific examples, only vague answers. Needless to say, I got sent home after that and was told I would be contacted, which let me know I failed since they were supposed to do my medical evaluation stuff too. I can reapply in 6 months, but I'm unsure if I want to. Very disappointed.

Question 1
Was only asked about how I dealt with specific situations- what the situation was, how I handled it and what the result was.

Interview
Hiring process was somewhat slow. I had applied in October of 2016, took the test in November and passed but didn't hear anything else for a while. Then two weeks ago, in Feb of 2017, I got a call to come in for an interview. Mind you, the place I'd applied for was hours away from my location and I applied knowing this. In my opinion, the people weren't very professional at all. There was a test to test color blindness and I did that while I waited for my interview before getting called in. It was very quick and short, and I'd noticed both of my interviewers were giving each other the side eye while I was already extremely nervous. The questions had been nothing like what I studied for, and I'd even bought the book they'd listed as a reference for their questions. How does one prepare for their interview process when they do not give better examples of what their questions are like?

Can't say specifics, but one was like: tell me a time you had to change your work habits.

It was a panel interview consisting of 5 people, that ranged from TSO's to Managers. The interview consisted of multiple questions with multiple parts to the question. Sometimes I had to have the question repeated to make sure I had covered all the parts.

Don’t come without the correct forms of ID because all excuses won’t matter. They will put you back into the system until next time. You are scored based upon how well you answer each question, not the accuracy of the answer.

Interview
Two TSA workers, one in office clothes the other in uniform, as general “what would you . . .” and “ have you ever . . .” types of questions. I didn’t spend my adult life working in teams of people or have any home experiences that would’ve provided clear, correct answers to their questions. I wanted to start a new type of career, but things were stacked against a person like me. The worst of it all was how intrusive the hiring process is just to get to this point and then be rejected.

Long process. Background, testing, interview, more testing. Took almost two years to complete but only because they run the training classes during certain months. For others it took less time.
