Senior Scientist at Theravance

No Offer – Reviewed Nov 09, 2012

Interview Details Everyone there was really friendly and nice. Did a series of one-on-one or two-on-one interviews. Some of the interviewers seemed nervous or uncomfortable to be interviewing me. It's a small mellow company. I actually had not heard of them before coming across their job posting on this website. However, the people there don't seem like go-getters, which is or is not a good thing for some people. If you're seeking for development or more ambitious not sure if this is the company for you. They seem to just want nice people and I'm not sure if they have their eyes set on people who can actually do the job well.

Interview Question – Actually got no unexpected or difficult questions, which kind of turned me off as it seemed like the company was not serious in choosing a good candidate who can take on a challenge. Which makes me think of the quality of the people working there........   Answer Question

Chemist at Theravance

No Offer – Interviewed in South San Francisco, CA (US) Jan 2010 – Reviewed Feb 21, 2011

Interview Details I was interviewed for a position over the phone. The Senior Scientist would not describe the job to me in any other detail, then it contained organic chemistry synthesis. The Scientist asked very basic questions that I responded to and then attempted to expand on (experience at different position). I had to pull teeth to get him to talk at all. He stated that due to IP he could not talk about his company, AT ALL. While, my job is all IP, but if its in a patent or on a press release you can discuss what is published, which is usually a very simple concept not involving IP. For example we work with polymers, he wouldn't give me anything. The interview lasted 20 minutes. He emailed me latter saying he wanted me to put together a Power Point presentation on my work and email it to him. I have a BS degree and all my relevent experience is in my work that involves IP, not only did he not talk about IP he wanted me to EMAIL a non-authorized IP inspired presentation to him just to see if he wanted to fly me in for an interview? The Power Point I could make, carefully choosing what to write and draw, emailing it was a definite no, no; And all this when he didn't discuss the position or sell me on the company. Maybe I have the situation screwed up and this is what's expected of an out of state applicant, but I passed on sending him material.Feel free to post thought
