Finance Advisor at University of Phoenix

Accepted Offer – Interviewed on Phoenix, AZ (US) Nov 2009 – Reviewed Apr 01, 2013

Interview Details I went through the hiring process as long time ago, but the new process is all behavioral based questions. They concentrate on hearing different competencies in your responses. Just research behavioral based questions and you'll be good. They treat it like you are applying to be the President of the United States, but yeah, you are applying to an entry level position so you are in the right place. I think the whole purpose of it is to make sure that they are choosing people that can put up with the crappy pay for as long as possible.

Interview Question – Tell us about a time when you had a disagreement with a manager, tell us about a time when you had to motivate someone, tell us about a time when you had to get in the middle of a disagreement between team members, tell us about a time when you had to set a goal for yourself, what was the outcome. Those are they types of questions.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Yeah, that's a joke, there is no negotiation, it's take it or leave it. As any advisor position you start at $38500 and you get the same benefits as everyone else.

Enrollment Manager at University of Phoenix

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Phoenix, AZ (US) – Reviewed Mar 07, 2013

Interview Details There is an personality test that you do on a computer first. If you meet the standards for that assessment, you will then be given a phone interview. If you meet those standards, you will then be granted a face-to-face interview with several directors. The questions are behavior based. They don't ask the "what would you if..." questions. The interview process is designed to prove you have the skills and competencies to work effectively within the organization. Either you have them or you don't. If you make it to the face-to-face, you have a pretty good chance.

Interview Question – The interview process has changed since I went through it so many years ago. Just be prepared to give examples of what you have already done to address or work through the situations they ask about. Don't be afraid to show that you are not perfect. Don't come with canned answers either.   Answer Question

Enrollment Advisor at University of Phoenix

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Feb 17, 2013

Interview Details First received a phone call asking about the understanding of the job. Based on what you idea of the job is and experience you are called in for an interview. The interview is very basic questions with a role play of a student conversation. I believe now all interviews are more behavioral questions. After that you are either offered the job or denied.

Interview Question – If new to speaking with students the role play is the toughest since I never did before. Depending on the manager you can have a difficult conversation trying to figure the student (interviewer) out and understanding the need to go to school.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – All new advisers started at the same salary, no negotiation.

Enrollment Counselor at University of Phoenix

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Feb 12, 2013

Interview Details First interview by phone by area training manager. Second interview on campus by Enrollment manager I would work directly under. Did not show me the noisy call center like environment I would be working in. (everyone in the same room...dividers low so you could see and hear everyone at once. Nor was I able to meet co-workers prior to being hired. Was not made aware that this was a high pressure sales job.

Interview Question – Asked me if I would be able to work with co-workers who were significantly younger. I felt this exhibited ageism, which I experienced after being hired.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – They told me at the very start of the first interview that the salary would be $32,000 a year and asked if I would be ok with that. If not ok, the interview would stop there. That didn't much leave room to negotiate once I knew more about the job. I would have liked to receive the job offer before committing to a salary. Once you know they want you, you are in a stronger position to negotiate.
