Declined Offer – Interviewed in Birmingham, AL (US) – Reviewed May 12, 2013 New
Interview Details They called me first, then I drove over for the interview. The interview is conducted sitting in the booths at the front end of the store. This can be very nerve-wracking if you were hoping for a quiet, distraction-free interview environment, but perhaps they're trying to assess your ability to handle the activity of the store. If that interview is successful, they'll call you a few days to a week later to interview with the next-higher-up manager. If this is successful, they'll usually offer you the job on the spot, or tell you that they wish to hire you but you must first interview with the store manager.
Interview Question – "When have you ever had to deal with an uncomfortable situation on the job and how did you handle it?" I was frank and told them about a harassment incident and the store manager seemed impressed with how I handled things, so don't be afraid to give a real example. Or you could just fabricate, it's not like they will call your old boss and say "Hey did you really scream at/punch/stalk/steal from XX employee four years ago?" Answer Question
Reason for Declining – I decided to take a work-study job instead. The traffic to the Whole Foods store was abhorrent, and I was told by two different friends who work there that WF will write you up for being late even if they schedule you to be there during the worst rush-hour times when traffic is at a standstill.
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in New Orleans, LA (US) May 2013 – Reviewed May 08, 2013 New
Interview Details Application was filled out online. I had an employee referral and was contacted about a week later to come in for an interview. The interview was with 2 of the store employees, one of which asked me questions for about 30 minutes while the other listened and asked any additional questions at the end. They then told me to wait for my second interview, right then and there. A department manager came over and asked me a couple more questions, then the first person who interviewed me offered me the job! Signed the offer letter same day as my interviews. Currently going through a background check, then start training.

Interview Details Had one in-person interview that lasted 20-25 minutes, got called the next day to schedule a phone panel interview. The phone interview was with the STL, ASTLs, and one of the metro coordinators. Did my research on here and so was well prepared to speak to core values. Definitely worthwhile to spend lots of time on the website learning about quality standards, programs, and values - not just familiarizing myself with them but also being able to articulate them back to the panel. The call was about 45 minutes (would have been shorter but I had questions to ask, too!) Got a call the next day saying that I got the job.
Interview Question – What are you afraid of? Answer Question

Interview Details I called the store after seeing the job position online. I wanted to know who I should address my cover letter to. After speaking to the produce ATL, I received a follow up call to schedule an interview. I made sure to emphasize my past supervisory experience as well as my knowledge of Whole Foods values and culture. I would absolutely make sure to peruse the Whole Foods website and incorporate the core values into your interview. Personal contact with team members and leadership is a bonus before you interview. I think that they are looking for people who embody the mission, values and job description. Your education is not going to be the first thing they look for, so if you, like me, have an advanced degree, it may not be a good idea to count on that giving you a leg up. Core values ftw.
Interview Question – Asking me how I handle disciplinary problems. I should have know it was a shadow of things to come. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I was offered the job literally five minutes after the interview. I was barely out of the parking lot.

Interview Question – If you got the job what is going to be your greatest challenge? Answer Question
