Former Employee - Senior Project Manager in Austin, TX (US)

I worked at Applied Materials full-time (more than 10 years)

Some real talent in the technology arena. Challenging work environment, lots of opportunities for movement within the organization. Pay and benefits are quite good.

Lay-off happy environment. It's getting more and more difficult to make money in this space and it shows in the daily stress place on employees. Total and complete GOOD OLE BOY environment. If you are a woman, middle management is the best you can hope to achieve there no matter your skills and qualifications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make an effort to add women to the ranks of senior management until you do it better without even thinking about it. It's embarrassing. Plan better, you know this is a cyclical business. Give the people who work there full time a little more feeling of job security.
