    I have been working at CNH Industrial N.V. full-time for more than 10 years


    If you work for the AG business in a consolidated market such North America, EMEA or LATAM under the Caseih or New Holland brands you'll enjoy strong brands, full ranges and excellent product portfolio rivaled only be John Deere. The brands needs to work much harder on branding and customer satisfaction in which John Deere with a single brand is far superior.


    Avoid both the Truck & Bus (IVECO) and Construction Equipment (New Holland Construction and Case) divisions. They do not have worldwide footprints and lack sufficiently competitive product ranges.

    IVECO (ex Fiat and Ford trucks)
    Present mostly in Europe and relatively strong only in Italy (home market) especially in the light and medium truck ranges. Heavy range products are outdated compared to other European players. Sells with heavy discounts and weak residual values. The division barely makes any profits. A smaller Bus division bought from Renault only really present in France snd Italy. Astra the off-road brand based in Piacenza previously very profitable in this niche is plagued with under production and quality issues and has limited future potential due to severe under investment. IVECO produces in China under JV's older models but as a strained relationship with it's partners die to pasts negligence and limited strategy for the future.

    Although they use bascially the same brand names as AG - New Holland and CASE this division is managed separately. Only the CASE brand has any historical significance and is relatively sucessful in North America. New Holland Construction however struggles in nearly every market and shouldn't really exist at all. Both only really have Compact range machines and both lack escavators which are sourced from competitors.

    Management in all businesses are only focused on quarterly results and push sales to achieve these with little regard to medium and long term growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Either have the financial resources to invest in the Truck & Bus and CE divisions or re-organise.

    New Holland Construction and Agriculture should be merged. The compact range of construction equipment is useful for AG and alone it can't compete against the best. The same should be done for Caseih and Case probably with the exception of North America.

    IVECO should be merged with Fiat Chrysler. Fiat builds the sucessful Ducato van in JV with Peugeot giving their dealers a profitable model to sell and IVECO makes a competing model the Daily. This is silly. Fiat should offer Fiat Professional dealers and maybe also Ram dealers full range of Fiat/Ram branded trucks based on the Fiat and IVECO models. Likewise IVECO should offer its dealers smaller IVECO vans based on Fiat/Ram models. The JV with PSA should be dropped.

    2. Top management has no decision power which remains only in the hands of Sergio Marchionne who is also the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles boss. The official CEO Rich Tobin is only really involved in North America and has limited decision making powers. None of the Group Executive Committee members can spend above $1 million in CAPEX without Marchionne approval. Most try their best not to have to make any requests and hide as much as they can. This is a complex $20 billion company. .. You can't wait for a guy managing 2 huge companies to be available to get a million bucks...

    3. Nobody understands the matrix Organization in place with region bosses, brand presidents, manufacturing, etc. ... It really is a mess that not even top management understands clearly.

    4. Expect some form of organizational change at least once a year and probably a new boss of you aren't in North America.

    5. Don't neglect to invest in the upgrading of the distribution network of the AG businesses throughout the work. To much reliance on weak distributors and importers will ultimately weaken the only successful business you have.

    6. Focus on the medium and long term. The internal madness every quarter to achieve the best quarterly results is causing middle management to only focus on that. We all know where this short term approach can take a company. This attitude is common in Fiat and Chrysler where rent a car and other short term sales are pushed hard to achieve numbers. Eventually it will bit back.
