I worked at Dollar General part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you don't have any experience, it's a decent place to start out, and it's pretty easy to get hired there.

    Cons

The turnover rate is high, which speaks volumes about employee satisfaction, so you're likely to be working with new people and being asked to cover missed shifts often. Pay was minimum wage as a sales associate, and I wouldn't say it was good pay at salaried positions either because managers have to work far too many hours to make the hourly rate worthwhile.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees! Treat them like people, rather than as warm bodies, and prioritize training adequately and paying reasonably to keep them around. One good employee is worth a dozen that quit within the first few weeks. Stop cutting hours and expecting more to get done than is possible, because it keeps your managers at the store longer than they ought to be and you'll ultimately lose them, too.
