Former Employee - Assistant Store Manager in Mackay
Former Employee - Assistant Store Manager in Mackay

I worked at GameStop as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

If your the type of person who loves to talk on a casual basis and relate to your customers, then this is the best place for you!
Staff discount on video games = AWESOME
Relaxed friendly environment where you will meet some of the funniest and most interesting people.
Best way to keep up to date with new releases and be in the know before everyone else :)

    Cons

    Where to start.....
    -limited to no training
    -Over exaggerated sale goals
    -Understaffed ALWAYS
    - Excessive price changes
    - Shockingly bad communication between management and employees
    - Employees are badly Informed (managers cheating the system)
As the former assistant manager I knew enough to know, something was wrong, VERY WRONG
    - Manager working less hours than a casual/part time employee
    - Manager using store address and store phone as personal address and phone e.g. receiving personal packages while at work.
-Unprofessional work ethics... when did it become OK for the store manager to make a part time employee do all manager workload?
    - If you want recognition for working hard and producing results......LOOK ELSEWHERE
    - Promises promises promises they all fall through.
    - Have you ever wanted to work your life away. e.g. overtime with no benefit- and not to pick up after a manager who checks mails and spends the rest of the day on the phone to the kids
For those who don't know a manager has a million things to do in a day e.g. stock rotation, inventory, marketing, payroll, end of week and staff management - As an assistant manager you are there to ASSIST and to perform your own duties e.g. closing, stock movement and a special area of pre owned games. It is not the duty of the assistant manager to fulfil all of the managers duties plus his/her own resulting In A LOT of UNPAID overtime while the manager goes home early everyday and NEVER works weekends.
    - No one to report to with harassment issues
    - HARASSMENT seems to be a norm

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rethink your hiring techniques, policies and communication.
As a student of a Service management degree Its clear that you need to change your business structure, culture/values, and management within your service deliver process.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
