Relatively easy sales job with fun perks & awful management.

I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Gorgeous work environment where playing dress-up is encouraged (what better way to study the merch?) Freedom to sell throughout the store at whatever pace you wish, as long as sales goals are being met, which are very reasonable. Store events are lots of fun.

    Cons

Catty women stealing clients from each other like sharks, sales girls crying in the bathroom à la Mad Men, drama, gossip, and more drama. If you can tune that out, though, there are some truly great women working here - gems among jerks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be more consistency in policy execution, and perhaps some personal coaching beyond the rote computer training software. Saks had the single most impersonal management I've ever experienced; a GM should not live 2+ hours away from their store.
