I have been working at Society for Neuroscience full-time

    -Free soda machine
    -Great health insurance
    -Relatively close to metro
    -You will learn something
    -overall positive work environment
-the work parties always have decent food, wine and beer
-each department plays a very specific role so there is less cross over work

-Only certain departments create positions for people that need promotions
-There is a lot of turnover at the assistant and coordinator level
-There is a large difference of pay between management and everyone else
-There is a lot of snakes in the grass and hence a lot of drama. The new HR team has done a lot to fix that, but you still have to be very careful about who you talk to and about what
-Senior management seems to be unaware of the discontent
-Its a great mission and organization, but with the drama people tend to quit in dramatic fashion, pushing key projects off onto others

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be better at this point to reduce the number of positions and create more versatile positions. Whatever it takes to get people the salary they need. Few people are comfortable speaking out. Most just take advantage of the experience and benefits and then move on. They also need to flex more with the times. Often it takes so long to get things approved, even after the new changes, that the improvement is outdated by the time it is implemented.
