Former Employee - Systems Engineer in Sydney
Former Employee - Systems Engineer in Sydney

I worked at Thales full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working as a systems engineer there was more flexibility in doing the job than I expected. Flexible working hours and no strict monitoring of lunch breaks. Although I was expecting more electronics work, I was able to get hands on experience on the IT side of things (configuring network routers & servers.)

    Cons

Things move very slowly like at other defence companies (BAE, Raytheon, Boeing etc.) Hardly any training provided (even though it was promised). Upper management think that simply giving speeches is the way to communicate. Some senior employees deliberately distance themselves from junior employees and don't pass on experience/advice. Some projects had very poor project management that affected the image of junior employees working under the project manager who didn't deserve the critercism they got. Hardly any potential for career progression. Annual salary increases only at inflation rate, nothing more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of some of the senior engineers who do next to nothing and engage more with your junior staff.
