    I have been working at The Hartford full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Work/life balance is decent. As long as there are enough people to handle the workload, time off is not usually denied. Lateral moves are abundant, especially if you are interested in being a customer care representative. Casual dress is offered frequently, usually as a "reward" for departmental goals being met. We have a new CEO - as with any change in management, this could possibly be a positive thing. All of upper management is currently being re-aligned/re-assigned at this time.

    Cons

    Most of the people are snobs, unable or unwilling to admit when they make an error, but very quick to point out any you make. Gossip seems to be more important than working, and favoritism is rampant. As long as you are willing to kiss up to your manager, you are golden. God forbid you have an opinion that runs against the norm. Training is deplorable - there are no longer any specific trainers, it is all in-house now. There are very few established procedures, and none of them are controlled in a standardized manner. Anyone can access and revise them. As long as the person training you is willing to share all information, tips, shortcuts, etc then you are set. If they are not, then you could struggle for weeks or months trying to grasp the fundamentals of the line of business, all the while trying to meet the endless "goals" set by your manager. "Coaching" is a joke and while some managers tend to micromanage their workers, others can be so laid back that they may as well not be there at all. Promotions are non-existent for the average worker - they are reserved for the executive levels. More and more work is being shipped to India in off-shore projects. Even the IT troubleshooting has been sent offshore. It can take weeks to get needed applications set up to complete training goals or provide workers with the desktop applications needed to do their jobs.

    Only ask for our opinions if you are willing to listen and act on them. Otherwise you are wasting our time.
