There are many routes into becoming a bookkeeper, such as an apprenticeship, college course or just by directly applying for it. Some candidates may have a qualification in bookkeeping, accounting, or manual and computerised bookkeeping. Demand for bookkeepers is expected to decline over the coming decade, as software programmes take over many of the tasks formerly performed by bookkeepers. Bookkeepers who remain will focus less on routine tasks and more on analytical and advisory tasks.
