Fannie Mae – Why Work For Us?

We are looking for employees who are intent on helping us achieve something remarkable. Since 2009, we have made tremendous progress in turning our company around, responding to an unprecedented housing crisis, supporting our country’s recovery, and making housing better for the future.

We’re looking for people who are committed to making a meaningful, lasting contribution for the housing system and for the American people. This is your opportunity to join one of today’s most diverse and talented teams in the financial services industry.

Fannie Mae enables people to buy, refinance or rent a home. To find out more, visit us at www.fanniemae.com/progress.

At Fannie Mae, we regard our employees as the very center of the company’s success. We value a sprit of collaboration and competitiveness to drive positive change, innovation, and creativity. We provide a rewarding and enjoyable work environment offering career opportunities today to help you build your skills for tomorrow.

We invest in you through a professional development curriculum that builds core skills for the workplace and strengthens critical management and leadership capabilities. We give you access to a full range of informal and formal development activities – face-to-face, online, and on the job.

We pay competitive salaries, and we encourage and recognize strong performance individually and across divisional teams.

Our robust 401(k) retirement savings plan matches your contributions up to 6 percent of your salary, vested immediately. We also add 2 percent of your compensation to the plan – whether you contribute or not – which vests after three years of service.

Our health care benefits include medical insurance, tax-saver spending accounts, and short- and long-term disability insurance.

Our financial-planning resources can help you plan to buy a house, send a child to college, get your finances in order, or retire.

And we offer a comprehensive range of career and lifestyle benefits to help you maintain a healthy work/life balance – including paid vacation, holidays, sick leave, and much more.

Are you performance driven? Focused on achieving superior results? Eager to contribute at any level?

The challenges of today’s housing market can be your opportunity.

We’re scaling up in targeted areas – putting the people, systems, and processes in place to:

  • Modify mortgage loans on a significant scale
  • Fix up and sell properties we own to qualified buyers
  • Modernize our technology infrastructure
  • Reshape our financial systems
  • Manage risk

To do this, we seek candidates who:

  • Lead through change
  • Collaborate/work across boundaries
  • Deliver results
  • Build and apply our talent
  • Balance competing priorities
  • Act with courage and integrity

I worked at Fannie Mae full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Solid company experience overall, having started as a consultant during restatement and then converted to employee. Benefits are for the most part quite good though a few things need improvement. Work/life balance is good, depending on organization, direct management, and company situation at the time.

    Cons

Not a lot of opportunity for growth internally, and company is drowning in politics

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more growth opportunities for your hard working employees. Minimize the internal politics and just get things done. One of these days the conservatorship blanket will be lifted, and the company can soar with a sound future mission (assuming US politics don't hamper this) if the company would do a better job of retaining top talent and promoting from within, and cuts through internal politics. Would also recommend increasing bonus structure as they are currently well below banks...while they may never get to the bank levels (and arguably shouldn't) they should be closer than they are. Also recommend doing away with the 1/3 bonus deferral until the next year. Pay for the hard work now.

I applied through university, then receive a on campus interview. The interviewer is friendly, and easy to talk to. But unfortunately, the position requires more work experiences than I have.
