Our History

Guavus was founded by data scientists who foresaw the need for a new model for data analytics given the emerging challenges with traditional data warehouses and business intelligence solutions to deal with the volume, velocity and variety of operational, sensor and network-generated data that is being created in today’s data-driven economy. The company’s patent pending, stream-processing technology has been in development for 10+ plus years, prior to today’s hyper excitement about “big data”.

Our Present

Today, Guavus big data analyticssolutions have been deployed at some of the worlds’ largest carriers and infrastructure vendors with demonstrable ROI. Currently, Guauvus proven solution has been deployed in multiple divisions at:

• 2 of the top 3 Tier 1 US mobile operators
• 3 of the top 5 Tier 1 US IP/MPLS backbone and CDN carriers.

We also have partnerships with 4 of the top 5 global communications infrastructure equipment vendors.

Given the explosive growth in operational, sensor and network-generated network data driven by the rise in smart phones, tablets and M2M communications, our traction within the Telecommunications & Service Provider market continues to soar. Anukool Lakhina, Founder and CEO

Anukool founded Guavus with a vision to provide solutions for dynamic, data-driven decision-making. He brings more than a decade of thought leadership in large-scale data analytics and has published more than a dozen papers on the subject. His Ph.D. dissertation put forth the theory and algorithms for streaming analytics on high-dimensional data, which forms the basis for the technology at Guavus. Prior to Guavus, Anukool was at Intel Research and Sprint Labs. He holds a B.S., M.S. and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Boston University. LinkedIn

Ty Nam, Chief Operating Officer

Ty brings more than 20 years of experience and is responsible for sales, marketing, product, operations, and business development at Guavus. Prior to joining Guavus, Ty was senior vice president and general manager of VeriSign’s Communications Services Group (Acquired by Transaction Network Services) with full profit and loss responsibility ($200M+ in annual revenue) and management oversight of sales, marketing, product, engineering, and customer service. Prior to VeriSign, Ty was COO and President of inCode Wireless (Acquired by VeriSign) responsible for client service and service delivery of strategic consulting and engineering services to mobile operators in North America, APAC, and EMEA. In addition, he held senior positions at Northpoint Communications and Deloitte Consulting. He earned an MBA from the University of Michigan and a B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois.LinkedIn

Professor Mark Crovella, Chief Scientist

Since 1994, Mark has been a professor of Computer Science at Boston University. From 2003-2004 he was a visiting associate professor at the Laboratoire d’Infomatique de Paris VI (LIP6). Prof. Crovella received a B.S. from Cornell University in 1982, and an M.S. from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Rochester in 1994. Professor Crovella¹s research has focused on the design, measurement, and modeling of parallel and networked computer systems. He has given numerous invited talks and tutorials, and is a founder of and consultant to several Internet companies. He co-authored "Internet Measurement: Infrastructure, Traffic, and Applications" and has written more than one hundred papers on networking and computer systems. His work has been cited over 13,000 times according to Google Scholar, and he holds five patents deriving from his research. Professor Crovella is a past Chair of ACM SIGCOMM, and is a Fellow of the ACM and the IEEE. LinkedIn

Jaskaran Singh, Vice President of Engineering

Jaskaran brings more than 20 years of experience in software development for data communications and telecommunications environments. Prior to Guavus, Jaskaran was vice president of engineering at GlobalLogic, an outsourced product development company, and played the role of software delivery head (India operations) for the telecommunications and embedded business unit. He is a co-inventor on two patents in the field of ATM and BSS. Jaskaran has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering, University of Delhi, India. LinkedIn

Aseem Parikh, Senior Vice President of Solutions Delivery and Support

A networking and communications industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience, Aseem is responsible for product definition, roadmaps and pre- and post-sales delivery at Guavus. Prior to Guavus, he was at RMI Corp (acquired by NetLogic) where he led the Technology Solutions and Services Group as its vice president and general manager. Before joining RMI, Aseem worked in Cisco Systems’ Optical Networking Group. He came to Cisco via the acquisition of iManage/Pipelinks, where he served as the co-founder and vice president of Engineering. In the past, he has also held senior positions at Novell. Aseem earned an M.S.E.E. from UCLA. LinkedIn

Timothy Monahan, Chief Financial Officer

Tim brings more than 20 years of experience as an executive and entrepreneur to Guavus. Before joining Guavus, Tim co-founded and was Chief Financial Officer of LV Sensors, Inc., a MEMS-based fabless semiconductor company. Prior to that, he co-founded NorthPoint Communications, Inc., the first DSL service provider in the U.S. He was the company’s initial CFO and helped organically grow the company through its IPO to more than $100 million in recurring revenues, 1,700 employees, and a presence in 65 metropolitan markets. Prior to NorthPoint, Tim was Director Corporate Development at MFS Communications, Inc., a pioneer competitive local exchange carrier. He helped raise over $2 billion from public markets to fund the carrier’s growth, and played a key role in the establishment of the MAE-East and MAE-West Internet exchange points and in the acquisition of UUNET Technologies. Tim began his career as a management consultant with Booz, Allen & Hamilton in 1988 in the U.S. and Australia. He received a BBA summa cum laude from the University of Texas and an MBA from Harvard Business School. LinkedIn

Eric Carr, Vice President of Analytics

Eric is Vice President of Analytics at Guavus, overseeing the company’s Solution Architect team, new product strategic directions and corporate marketing. He has been involved in the mobile industry for more than 14 years in a variety of roles and capacities. Prior to Guavus, Eric was vice president of mobile applications at Teleca, overseeing all aspects of their global mobile applications solutions. In this role, he was responsible for building the strategy, sales and delivery capabilities needed to help accelerate the mobile application demands of the industry. Eric joined Teleca from Loopt, a venture-backed startup, where he served as vice president of Products and Location Technologies. Eric also held senior positions at inCode Wireless (acquired by Verisign), a leading mobile consulting firm where he led the creation of multiple service lines; at Telispark (acquired by InfoWave), a mobile enterprise software company he founded; and at Deloitte Consulting, a global leader in telecommunications strategy and operations services. Eric was a Ph.D. candidate and holds a Masters degree from Stanford University. He also graduated from Carleton College with a BA in Computer Science, Economics and Math. LinkedIn

Swati Choksi, Vice President of Consulting Services

Swati heads analytics and professional services functions at Guavus. She brings more than 20 years of experience from companies such as Oracle, Ericsson, Lockheed Martin and Decision Craft Analytics. Her expertise is in delivering customized analytics projects and building proof of concepts for innovative analytics across industry verticals. In addition to analytics, she brings expertise in offshore and onsite project execution, consulting and strategy planning. Swati holds an MS in Industrial Engineering and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. LinkedIn

Michael Crane, Vice President of Business Development

Mike brings more than 20 years of experience in telecommunications, software sales, product management and global business development to Guavus. Before joining Guavus, he was vice president of sales and business development at Grid Net, a company in the smart-grid space selling to utilities and telecom providers. Mike also ran global business development and sales for Golden Gate Software (acquired by Oracle). Prior to this position, Mike held leadership positions in Keynote Systems, Nielsen Telecom, Vodafone, Aeris Communications and PriceWaterhouse Coopers. He holds an M.S. from University of California, Berkeley. LinkedIn

Sanjay Kalra, Vice President of Product Management

Sanjay brings more than 16 years of product marketing experience and is responsible for product management and technical and product marketing at Guavus. Prior to joining Guavus, Sanjay was senior director of the product management branch business unit at Juniper Networks. He was responsible for managing business strategy, mergers and acquisitions, product roadmap, business planning, marketing forecasting and business development. In addition, he has held senior positions at Cisco Systems and ACC. He holds seven invention patents in the fields of networking and security. Sanjay earned an MBA from Santa Clara University, an MSEE from USC and a B.S. from NIT Warangal. LinkedIn

I have been with Guavus for a little more than 2 years and I must say that the journey has been excellent so far. Coming from a telecom background, I had little understanding of the Big Data Analytics domain when I joined the company. So I was expecting at least a month of ramp-up period to get some understanding of the new domain. However, soon after joining here, I found myself reading research papers, doing benchmarks and developing modules that would go into production in a couple of months. This is the kind of expectations, responsibilities and a sense of ownership you feel when you join Guavus.

What I like about Guavus? Well its the challenging work environment, excellent peers and a rare chance to work on advanced computer science concepts. At Guavus, we build systems that analyze petabytes of data using multiple technologies - Map Reduce, Column Stores, Distributed Caching. We are firm believers of "Learn, Unlearn & Re-learn" and that is why we are always keen on experimenting with and adopting new technologies so that our platform stays cutting edge.

Guavus Gurgaon center has grown from 30 people to 100+ (and counting) in last 2 years and now we have some of the biggest Tier 1 Telcos in the world as our customers. This is a tremendous achievement for a company of such a small size.

The energy and excitement here is infectious. I love that we’re always looking at something new, something that hasn’t been done before.

Guavus culture is very dynamic – there’s always something new going on.  Everyone is extremely hard working and dedicated to what we’re doing here.  People do whatever is needed for us to be successful, but there is also a healthy respect for people’s personal lives.  It’s a good balance.

The journey till now has been very good, it’s been especially interesting for me personally since I came from very “Corporate America”.  The start-up environment is great.  There has been a steep learning curve for me and everyone has been super helpful supporting me in learning what I need to know.  There has been a lot of growth but it is nice to see that a big effort is made to bring in top talent – the company is willing to take the time to make sure we find the best people for the job.  People have a similar work ethic and fit together really well.
