I worked at Los Angeles USD full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The benefits are great. The vast majority of the teachers and administrators are great. There are many resources available, if you can navigate the system successfully.

    Cons

A lot of PDs that are poorly planned, and amount to a waste of time/money when we could have been in the classroom. It's a huge bureaucracy so it can be difficult to get help with your needs or the needs of students.

The process took a day - interviewed at Los Angeles USD.

    Interview Details

I had one interview for an elementary school teaching position. I was asked several questions, from the standard "Why do you want to work here?" to "Delve into your experience working with children." I am bilingual (Spanish), and the area where the school was located had a majority of Latino students, so that came in handy when explaining my ability to communicate with Spanish-speaking parents if necessary.

    • Why did you apply to teach at this school and not X school in another district?   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
I was straight out of undergrad so there was no negotiation. My salary was set.
