    I worked at STV full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Healthcare benefits are good. The company pays a large portion. Flexible in working hours. Office located in nice area of city. Going thorough office renovations. Wide exposure of people and project types.

    Cons

    Lack of effective communications within groups and among external departments, contractors, other ... Unproductive department meetings. Certain people "run off at the mouth". Group leader needs skills in properly conducting/directing meetings. Ideas aren't solicited. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) groups needs better direction/organization to produce better AND to understand what is required. Company could use mentoring and coaching among All levels. Little opportunity for advancement. Severely downsizing some of their departments. High voluntary turnover in marketing, etc..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Think of ways to make [ALL types] employees feel confident and valued. More openness to ideas, will lead to innovation which may lead to more jobs being won and/or successfully completed.

    Application Details

    I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at STV.

    Interview Details

    The process started out fine. Interviewed with the recruiter, then met with the Managing Editor and another Marketing Editor who gave a very professional interview that made me very interested in working for the company - they were fantastic. Then met with the National Director who asked very odd questions that did not pertain to anything. Took about 3-4 weeks.

    Interview Questions
    • Unexpected questions included asking me to choose 3 words to describe myself and to rate my abilities on a scale of 1-10 (cause people say anything less than 10?). Wouldn't have been shocked if I was asked to pick which color best represents me.   View Answer
    Negotiation Details
    Was presented with an offer that the National Director had cut by almost $10,000 below the number I had already agreed to during the original negotiation. I have since learned that agreeing to a number and then low-balling at the end happens a lot there.
