I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks – interviewed at Tagged.Interview Details
Two interviews and then an all day in person.
I was contacted by a recruited about this position. The recruiter was one of the most talented I have ever interacted with.
The first in was pretty smooth. The interviewer asked standard questions. The only thing of note was the question to compare and contrast Discriminative and Generative models.
The second interview was a bit of a technical follow up where I was intended to walk through a standard problem with a current Data Scientist. The problem was pitched like a standard SQL problem but it is clearly something that could not be answered. The features would not be adequate for the desired outcome. We then spent the rest of the time talking about how to get better features.
I was then flown to San Fran for the in person interview. The first step was to give a talk which I did on something out of my field but that they told me they were interested in. The follow up questioning was intense and the manager was quite aggressive with a employee that agreed with me about a particular subject. I then met for a one on one with each of the panel members. In the course of this I basically decided I would never work at Tagged and now understood why they were offering me 20% over market. One interviewer told me that he did nothing but code. He had no free time and read coding books on the weekend. Another did not understand the question he asked and then tried to tell me my answer was contradictory. The manager stared down one of the employees in front of me and was so argumentative I nearly walked out.
