Engineering

This engineering team does it all, running a site of 58M+ users and 20M+ reviews. They tame MySQL replication one day, implement a brand-new feature the next, and push it all out that night. They love being responsible for whole systems, and they love scaling those systems to the next level. But what really keeps the code flowing? Daily release cycle, baby!

Product

PMs at Yelp do a lot. In an 'average' day you might be immersed in UI designs in Adobe Fireworks, QAing new features, spec-ing out ideas, and always, always using the site to think of ways we can improve it. We need a Product Manager who can design beautiful-but-simple features, crank out mockups and iterate on them quickly and think creatively about how to make yelp.com a more useful and fun place to be.

Design

Think you've got the design skills to wow over 58 million users each month? Then Yelp wants to hear from you. We're looking for a designer that can create world class user interfaces that visually amaze but are simple to use.

About Yelp Sales Development Program

Know where you stand. In the Yelp Sales Development Program, promotions are earned by working hard and working smart. A transparent development plan outlines what you need to be doing every day, month and quarter to reach the next level. Increased compensation as well as additional responsibilities keep your career moving: work larger accounts; travel to your territory to meet clients; work out of our offices both domestically and internationally. Find what you excel at and make it a career.

Yelp is growing by the minute, and we’re looking for ambitious, energetic individuals to join our Sales Teams! If you're a brave leader who's passionate about local businesses, online advertising, and looking for a uniquely rewarding inside-sales development program, then we're the place for you.

We offer our employees solid base salaries that increase based on their individual performance; extensive initial and ongoing training; and a comfortable, energetic, world-class work environment with free food and an awesome office! We have a structured professional development program that provides a clear path to increased responsibility, a better title, and of course, more money!

You’ll have the opportunity to earn a higher base salary every 6-months or so, depending on your own performance

This program is structured as a two-year crash course in sales and online advertising. At the end of that period, depending on your performance, you can move into a higher-level sales role at Yelp, or use your training to land your next dream job. Whatever you decide, Yelp will help you get there.

Check out our offices in SF, NYC, and Phoenix!

    Pros

Sales to local businesses is very challenging, however it's really rewarding. Yelp's advertising product is great and knowing that you can help a small business owner compete in their market and connect with their local community is totally worth it. I also loved the hands on approach to training and development. I've worked at other jobs where they give you packets and videos and expect you to learn from those materials. At Yelp they trained and helped me through 10's of different avenues.

    Cons

I wish there was a less expensive package to sell businesses. Sometimes $$ can be tight and you want to help them somehow. Guess that's what the free products are for.

    Advice to Management

I loved it at Yelp. Especially being on pilot teams and testing new approaches to sales. Keep that up. (I had to leave for personal reasons that took me to Dallas for a few years. Hoping to get back in at some point).

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Yelp (New York, NY (US)) in February 2015.

    Interview

I put in an application and got an email back about 2 weeks later asking to set up a 10-15 minute phone interview. The phone interview lasted about 20 minutes. She asked some basic questions about my background and resume. Then we did a short role play. She was a business owner and I had to pretend I worked for Yelp and I was leaving a voicemail to someone I tried to reach two times already. She gave me feedback then I redid the scenario. Afterwards she asked me to come in for an onsite interview in their nyc office. I had three 20 minute interviews. All of them were different role play scenarios so definitely prep yourself for that and study ahead! If you don't you'll struggle because it's a lot of on the spot/think fast type situations.
