I worked at AT&T as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Employee culture, workspace 2020, Big Data, etc. AT&T is doing a great job at investing in its future. The employee and work culture is also incredible.

    Cons

There were a lot of times when I felt that employees were being underutilized. I thought that some people weren't being challenged enough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See Cons: make sure you challenge your employees!

Former Employee - Program Manager in London, England (UK)

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Benefits in terms of pay and associated benefits such as pension, bonus and car allowance are all good. Leadership is changed frequently within functions which leads to changes in direction and lack of continuity, albeit the overall leadership quality at senior levels is OK. Work life balance is what you want it to be.

    Cons

Lower level management are stuck in the 70's. Lots of old boys club activity seen with jobs going to someone who may not be best for the role. People there to pick up the money until they retire leads to a negative environment with lack of innovation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change is good. Trying to maintain how things have always been done is not. You must buy into and support innovation and accept that evolution has to happen.

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

AT&T is a company that provides you opportunities for advancement and opportunities to travel at the company's expense.

    Cons

There are limited opportunities for advancement in California but if you want to work in Atlanta or Texas there are many opportunities for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to survey your employees but also take action and implement suggestions that the employees provide about how the company can improve customer service areas.

    Pros

Cutting edge wireless technology, tremendous opportunities, great culture

    Cons

Big company, regionalized approach versus specific market approach.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain your prior structure of ensuring customer impacting decisions are made, whenever possible, by the local market leadership versus regional or national leadership.

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Training, performace raises, benefits, incentives, great employee discounts on wireless and Uverse services

    Cons

health insurance is much worse than 3 years ago, best plan has $900 deductible per person, lots of red tape to get orders processed, no good project management process in place so many orders get delayed/canceled, burden falls on sales to meet quota, place orders, manage process, etc

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

need to get an effective project management process in place to handle orders through install, to be competitive we need to reduce lead times to 30-60 days - 120 days + is ridiculous!

Current Employee - Customer Service Representative I in Pueblo, CO (US)

I have been working at AT&T full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The call center is very fast paced, which makes the day go by fast. Most of my coworkers are really friendly and take pride in their job.
Schedules and vacations are based on seniority, so while I am low on the totem pole, per se, I understand and feel it is fair. On the other hand, it can cause issues for employees with small children.
Having a call center background, I understand the dynamics of speed on the phone and on the computer, but at times, the call volume can be very high, even with the push for self service.

    Cons

The metrics! We have a scale of 1-10 on certain things that the customer rates us on with an after call survey, and we aim to get 10's across the board. However, if you have a customer that has called in a number of times, they rate the company as a whole and not the employee. And that bad review can cause your overall score to drop to 0. And anything under 9 is worth 0 or -100, so it creates a lot of stress. To me, it would make sense to have 7-8 at least mean something.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a look at the metrics again. Getting one bad survey, even if we did everything we could to help the customer, is bringing morale down.
