I worked at AT&T as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The infrastructure is there. You will have unlimited resources at your disposal and everyone was extremely accessible. During my internship, I got to meet top level executives - including presenting to the CMO, dinners, baseball games - on several occasions. Great teams and a great learning experience.

    Cons

AT&T is huge. Even as an intern, there was a lot of telecommuting, and to really take advantage of everything it has to offer, you have to be willing to look for it sometimes. Also, for a "high-tech" company, the resources made available were not so up-to-date.

    Pros

Great Pay, really good training and wonderful co-workers. Training is A-1 and you will receive all of the tools to successful at your job. Very encouraging management that supports and celebrates your successes.

    Cons

The sales objectives changed 3 times in less than a year which effects your bonuses as a sales consultant. Continually pressured to sale or upgraded products to customers that were calling about other concerns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider changing the pricing strategy. Customers would appreciate a straight forward pricing plan across the board.

    Pros

Training, various opportunities for vertical and horizontal movement

I have been working at AT&T as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Great company, choose schedule, excellent benefits, opportunities to move up in the company

    Cons

Hours can be long sometimes, pay can be challenging if you are working two positions in one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your team. Listen to your team and be more professional. Do not discuss everyone's business with non management. Do not plot one against the other. Lead by example. Help others without expecting things in return. Learn to accept a persons assets to the team. Be a leader vs managing. Take charge of your team instead of your team taking charge of you. Do not allow other mgmt and staff to harass individuals because they feel deprived of knowledge that was a rightful choice that they neglected to accept.

Former Employee - MTSO Switch Technician in Pittsburgh, PA (US)

    I worked at AT&T full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great management, evaluations and movement. Training and growth opportunities were always available when time permitted. Management (at least mine) was a solid team player and steered the workload very well. Everybody knew their responsibilities and requirements.

    Cons

Due to specific growth, there was often more overtime, on-call and call-out than you sometimes wanted in your life. It seems that they could have kept manning up but at the same time I understand if you're over manned then you have people sitting idle. Plus, better to pay a few more than more less.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall, I suppose work-life balance and time-off was equaled based on the project loads.
