I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great brand and history.

The HP legacy is still there despite Bill Sullivan's best efforts to kill it

    Cons

Agilent has gone from 7+ divisions and 51,000 employees in 2001 to 5700 employees and three divisions in 2014. That is a 90% reduction in employees

The constant downsizing means there is NO growth for rank & file. It is NOT a career, it is just a job unless you sit on executive row.

Management is rewarded for continually splitting chunks of the company off and selling them. Keysight is just the latest chunk to be whittled out for the benefit of the shareholders and the board.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think about Customers, Employees and Product before your personal enrichment (ha!)

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very Structure and organised company , but sometimes cannot be very rigid, lack of innovation

    Cons

Even though work life balance was emphasised, but somehow in certain department, we have to work numerous OT especially month end to hit the target. Moreover, with the strict and regid compliance rule and regulation, especially with the monthly internal audit, life can be upside down and loss it's balance.

And to my surprise, the variable bonus was paid twice a year, every 6 months.
and i found out that the variable bonus ( generally) for perm staff, is not even up to half a month of salary, i mean this make no difference between the contract and perm staff! and there is no D&D end of the year or any welfare funding for each department. My manager eventually need to spend their own money for the quarterly welfare of the staff. ( strange)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

instead of feeding the shareholder, appreciate your staff and increase the bonus,/ welfare.
    Work hard and play hard

I have been working at Agilent Technologies full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work with awesome engineers and chemists - who need Wikipedia when you have people who know what they are talking about and are happy to help you understand. You have a lot of flexibility in solving problems, and if you see someone working on a problem that interests you then "welcome to the team". Management is aware of the 'graying' of the employees and continues to promote college hires. Agilent is one of the dwindling number of employers that still offers a retirement plan in addition to the 401K.

    Cons

You are responsible for your own development plan, not your manager. Can be good or bad - good if you like challenges and have initiative, bad if you want someone to tell you what to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bill and Dave practiced "management by walking around" to get first-hand knowledge on what was going on. Agilent management does great at that for the first couple levels of management, but higher levels need to get out more.
