Singapore (Singapore)

Current Employee – been working at BT full-time for more than a year

ProsThe people are BT's biggest asset.

ConsExtremely bureaucratic. Way too much red tape.
Dogmatic in employee appraisals... not so much meritocratic but "does it fit the bell curve"

Current Employee – been working at BT full-time for more than a year

ProsProfessional culture and stable well-defined jobscopes.
Structured and process driven.
Good office environment / location, and adequate best-practice benefits.

ConsSlow, complex, bureucratic supporting processes that impede business growth and personal development.

Advice to Senior ManagementSimplify the way we work, or lose good people whom care most for the business.
Leave the decisions to the business and hold them responsible, rather than micromanage to a state of unacceptable delay.

Birmingham, England (UK)

Current Employee – been working at BT full-time for more than 10 years

ProsNew offices.
Nothing else really

ConsNew offices in Sandwell have hade many cars stolen from the local car parks, people being mugged for their laptops... Not a nice area at all
Senior management appear intent on outsourcing all roles to India, improving margins and retaining their bonuses with no concern for staff morale or customer satisfaction.
Zero comms from line management.
Losing customers rapidly.
No written job description means zero promotional prospects.

Advice to Senior ManagementOutsourcing everything to India is not the answer to every problem, communicate with the staff, hold team meetings and actually ask what's wrong.

Current Employee – been working at BT full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGood people, who tend to band together and everyone is in the same boat.

ConsCross area working needs to be improved upon and too much red tape to get through for often the simplest of things.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on giving your people a better work life balance, training and opportunities to move up the ladder. While bottom line is definitely important, it cannot be the be all and end all.

Ipswich, England (UK)

Former Employee – worked at BT as an intern for less than a year

ProsGood structured career progression for graduates on the graduate scheme. Some interesting work if you are in the right areas. Good friendly environment and nice campus at Adastral park.

ConsI got the impression that some of the technical research areas are not valued so much by the company. In the area I worked in funding seemed low and some basics were not provided which employees had been asking for for a long time.

Leeds, England (UK)

Current Employee – been working at BT full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGood at downsizing whilst maintaining shareholder value. Some good people to work with. Some divisions are better than others so choose carefully.

ConsVery poor management with a lack of vision. Took a lot of rejects from CWC and the BT Business Division is suffering the very same fate as a result. Very little customer focus and even less innovation. Very little support for personal development.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo point, everyone is too wrapped up in their own fear to listen to anyone other than their line manager.
